Default Side posts vs top posts???

I've just finished my slingshot, mounted the body and realized that side body posts may not be the best thing. This chassis type is new to me. They are up as high as possible but I see a lot of top posts coming out of hoods and such on blackjacks and slingshots.

What are your thoughts on this?

Do side mounts, if placed up high, really ever hang up. Is it a big issue? Do top mounts leave the side lexan too floppy?

the side posts will hang up quite a bit. the lexan will just bend out of the way of stuff when there mounted on the top.

I always wondered what the draw to side posts was. Seems like top mount would make body lifting/lowering and overall adjustment MUCH easier. Then again, maybe most crawler chassis' have enough holes to move the side mounts around.

I run top mounts on my slingshot. I initially had side mounts but they get in the way too much. I am of the opinion that a floppy body is better than something rigidly mounted because it will flex and move out of the way when needed. The only time you need a rigid body is when it affects the aerodynamic properties like in touring cars. If you think that the side mounts will hang up, they will. Put those posts vertical.

Well i have top on one rig and side on another.

I like them both equally. The side mounts pull my body in without having to crease it...which keeps it 'tensioned' so it wont rattle. I like this

The top mounts are nice but I hate flipping it into dirt or grass as they will dig in and make a mess.

On my slingshot build.... I used both.

seems to work ok, no hang ups as of yet.

I have side-mounts and they do hang up quite a bit. It was just easier for me to mount my posts on the side, and it helped for a bit more of a scaler look.

I use side posts. Recently remade some new ones from 7/16 delrin rod. This way they don't go through the body, a #6 button head screw secures the body to the post. Way less stuff to hang up. They are like home made versions of the trinity body mounts for oval cars. You can cut to whatever lenght you want to suck it in too. Top mounts would have gone thru the windshield on my grappler.

I personally hate posts of any kind, top or side.
I just make hoops out of Aluminum, and use heavy duty Velcro.
No need for body posts that way, and if you use heavy duty Velcro, the lid stays on no problem.

Umm Pink,

Any reason you run your Hammers in the correct direction on the passenger side and backwards on the driver side??

Some super secret thing we don't know yet??

I like that idea. Too bad I'm impatient... when I want the body off I'm usually pissed off and want it off now. But ... with batteries on the axles it pretty much eliminates the need aside from repairs.

I'd try this except I now have 6mm holes in the sides. :(

For top posts, trick is to put them at the base of the w/s and for the rear posts, sorta close to the cab so they don't dig into the ground when upside down.

I see someones side posts hold them up at every comp we have.
