Default painting and body Qs

how do I need to paint my body? Do I cut then paint or
do I paint then cut it?

Should I paint light first then dark or
dark then light?

I always paint first then cut. Dark colors first. After the paint is dry apply masking tape to the edges that you are going to cut (overlapping above and below the cut line ) that way you don't scratch the paint and your body edges will have a little more protection to prevent chipping and cracking.

I always get the body mounted while its clear and I can see where to drill post holes. I trim with sisors about an 1/8th inch from where I will have it trimmed to, then I add the paint and then dremel the edge to finish.

I forgot, if you have to paint light covers first just back them with white or silver and then the colors stay bright and true. Try to always back all your colors when your done, looks more pro. Oh, and wash the inside of the body with dishwashing soap and wipe down (if you let it air dry you may get water spots that you have to wipe off) with a lint free rag, NOT paper towels. I use paper towels but I then blow it before I start laying down pigment with air.

will the "Testors" paint in the model section at Wally World work on these lexan bodies? the differences I see between them and the paint I got from my LHS is:
TESTORS= 80% VOC/enamel
PACTRA= 95% VOC/lacquer

You want paint especially made for polycarbonate. I have not seen it stocked at WalMart. Normal model spray paint will chip more easily than the special paint. You want to go to your LHS and get some paint made specific for painting RC bodies.

yeah there is a BIG differance in the paint. If you paint with normal spray paint you will be crying your first run.

I normally use Pactra Racing finish. On the label it says "Bonds to Lexan and poly-carbonate model car bodies"

I have always used Pactra also but Parma makes the Fascolor paints for lexan/polycarbonate bodies. The Fascolor is water based and the Pactra is solvent based. Post pics when you're done.

Im looking at pactra paints on Tower hobbies they list an outlaw Black and a metalic black.. has anyone painted with these colors ?? i just ordered a nice new body for my Tl-01 chassis and im gona try and make it look nice i want the darkest blackest black possible.. and i've chosen the Window tint paint to shoot my windows.. does anyone have pics of their bodies painted with these colors ?? i'm curious as to what it will look like before i make my color choice.. and im wondering how dark the window tint is..

The difference between the two blacks is the metallic. They are both good blacks.

I tried using actual tint with my other "nice" RC body and it didnt stick.. Ill give it a shot though..
