I'd like to know where you guys are getting the masks you use for the Carbon Fiber effect? I've been using shelf liner but it just doesn't look as good.

Here's what the result using shelf liner looks like, I could improve it by having less contrast between the black and silver by darken the silver a bit. This is the pattern I'd like to achieve, I borrowed this image from Rock Thrasher's album as an example. Thanks Thrasher. |

I use shelf liner for all of my carbon fiber. First, I shoot a few coats of transparent black to soften the edges anywhere the carbon fiber stops ( against any other color, wheel wells, body creases, windows etc..). After that, I lay down a very light coat of transparent black on the whole carbon fiber area. Once that dries, lay down your shelf liner and make sure it's nice and straight. Next comes a few light coats of pearl silver. The key word is light or else the paint can run under the liner. Once that dries, back it with black and your done. |
