Default Pink wheels

So I attempted to dye my stock white wheels on my CC-01 to black and this is what I got.

So here is what I did. Maybe someone can shed some light on why my wheels are not black.
First I tried black powder fabric dye in hot tap water for 1 hour. It took no color at all.
Second I tried black rit liquid dye in hot tap water with 25% acetone for 2 hours. I got a some color. Very light pink.
Third I tried black rit liquid dye in boiling water and let the wheels boil in the water for 30minutes. It got to the pinkish color in the picture. So I let it sit in the pot and cool off for 12 hours. Still is the same color.
What is it that I'm missing?

I think it is the plastic they use. I tried dyeing some touring car dish wheels and they turned out a faint grey color. I used the RIT dye also.

I thought it might be the plastic as well. So I put in some other plastic pieces I had lying around. A toy fishing net, toy paddles for a canoe, a piece of grey PVC rod, a strip of clear lexan, and a Lego brick. None picked up color at all in any attempt. The wheels actually picked up the most.

In the past I've had very good luck dying things black...lately, not so much. The last three things I tried ended up brown, purple, or took no color at all. Makes me wonder if RIT has changed their formula.

I would have made due if they at least turned grey. Buf pink is not going to work. I wonder if RIT changed up their formula. It does appear that most the videos and posts about dying are old. Could be old formula dye.
