Default First paint job question

I'm a total noob to painting one of these bodies. I'm planning on doing a silver with black highlights. Question is.........if I put three or four coats of silver, then pull the masking off and spray the black, will it darken the silver or bleed through it?

Also, would someone recommend a specific brand/type of painters tape for masking which won't allow paint to bleed.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the silver you get, I use Tamiya ps12 Silver. You can back that with black all day long and it will be fine. As for the masking taper, I would just get some liquid mask and put about 4 coats of it on with a brush and then you can cut out your designs with it. Never had a bleed through with it yet. You can get a small thing of it made by Bob Dively about 4oz for $8. I tried the Parma brand and I do not like it much at all.

Thanks jwalker for the response. I've got Tamiya PS-41 Silver and PS-5 Black.

From reading past threads, I gathered that liquid mask is better. However, I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. Liquid mask requires a level of skill I don't possess. I just thought maybe that of all the masking tapes at places like Home Depot, that one type might be better than others.

I wanted to post a picture to show the finished product. Reading the FAQ's at the top of the page, it says I can attach files or images by using the advanced editor in posting a reply and clicking on "manage attachments", but I don't have any such option. I don't use a pic hosting service.

I ended up using 3M Scotch Blue Painter's Tape from Home Depot, smoothed it down with the cap to a felt tip pen. Masking was just a few broad stripes on sides and hood. I couldn't tell any bleeding, pretty good lines. Black paint did not darken the silver.

I put four coats of the Silver on, then only a couple of coats of the black.

I'm happy with it as a first time effort. Still have to do the decals, not looking forward to that. Fender flares were difficult but turned out well.

I use Frog Tape, nice clean lines. Looks like you had good success with the blue tape, I have always experienced bleeding with blue tape.
