Default Need Military Color Spray Paint for Wraith Shell

I'm sure this has been covered, but I have seen alot of conflicting info... So I'm asking it again...

My Situation:

I'm building a wraith spawn and want to paint the inside of the shell Dark Earth Color...

I recently painted my Losi Baja body using the Krylon Camo colors The dark earth.. It looked AMAZING, but is now flaking off Badly...

I see there is Tamiya Spray Lacquer military colors.... Will they work ?
I also see a 3M adhesion modifier... If I spray that on first will it help??

I don't care its glossy, I just want the color....

Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.

Here is the Baja

And now after 3 days Bashing and Racing it looks like this :(

You're going to need paint that is for lexan or polycarbonate bodies.

Did you paint it first with a lexan paint, then apply the krylon over it? I've got a body that has rustoleum paint over the lexan and its flaking off a bit in spots.

I think the consensus is - first coat should be a lexan paint, then you can paint whatever (basically) over that you want.

Yes!

Paint Pactra lexan paint on first, then your choice of rustolum paint on next...

My very sucessful F150...paint job.

She has been beat on, rolled, scratched... No flaking.

While I'm aware of methods used to allow use of non-Lexan specific paints, I just fail to understand why someone isn't adding a half-dozen more "natural" colors to their paint line-up for polycarbonate bodies.

Desert sand, olive drab, brown, rust, primer grey, and a few others would be greatly appreciated.

Then you could paint either just from the inside, or one color inside (black, silver, whatever) and another outside.

Much simpler...

How hard could it be to mix it up and sell some small cans of it?

And, yep - I know about buying an airbrush and doing it myself - but seriously, come on!

Kinda makes me want to start a petition.

Tired of bright, toy-like colors on my...........

toys.

As mentioned above in posts 2,3,& 4, and I've mentioned it in numerous threads in this section, anytime you paint on a lexan body, inside or outside, use a Tamiya PS or Pactra polycarbonate color or clear paint first. Once thoroughly cured, you can apply a Rustoleum, Testor's, or Krylon paint over the top, acrylic or enamel paint.

I Do Not recommend a lacquer. The chemical composition of certain lacquer paints will reactivate the base coat and ruin your paint job, i.e. bubble or orange peel.

Also, before you apply ANY paint to a lexan body, wash it thoroughly with a mild detergent like Dawn, and let it dry for several hours.

Here is my 2 cents, I lightly use a Scotchbrite pad to scuff the surface a little to help the paint adhere

I also use Etch Less primer for everything and then my normal rattle paints from Home Depot or the little spray cans Michael's Crafts sell

Everybody has there own way of doing it. I like using the Etch Less primer and again lightly scuff between primer coats and top coat

Its a multiple step process and same with clear coat I like to lightly scuff between layers to adhere and plus you know you got good coverage

If the scuffs marks are filled in and looks evenly coated between coats

Thanks for the help guys....

I used this Clear matte, let it dry, then applied the color over the top of it, and it appears to be bullet proof...

I found the method online, and it was confirmed on this thread....

I used brake fluid on a older RC4WD Mojave body, it changes the plastic and made it dull and a little brittle

Didn't mind cause I wanted the old used look on my Yoter Truggy, I got the look I wanted

I also bought quarts of Home Depot's Enamel Gloss Hunter Green

And their Rusty Red Primer, mixed my own OD Green and painted my

Wraith chassis, I also painted my Hutchison Bead locks too

you could always try camo plasti-dip on the inside (or even the outside). that stuff will flex with the body no problem. dipyourcar.com has tons of colors. i recently did my son's barrage body with camo green plasti-dip and it turned out great. yeah it scuffs a little on the outside, but he said he was "fine with some trail rash" love that dude.

there are some great methods in this thread though. just keep in mind what is for clear lexan bodies and what is for solid plastic hard bodies.
for example, i would only use the brake fluid removal on a clear lexan (carefully! i heard it can yellow and cloud if too much is used) but i cant imagine why it would be used on a hard body that can simply be re-painted over the previous paint on the outside. unless maybe it was several thick coats that reduced the details of the body?

Well I chopped the Back and Painted the Body...

I used the Tamiya PS-55 Flat Clear Spray first.... Then the Krylon Flat Dark Earth... The paint is holding like GRIM DEATH.....

I need to still paint the interior, I'm painting the fenders a Matte Black ....and I'm sorting out what I'm going to do with the windshield....

But Overall I'm Supper Happy with the results....
