Rustoleum 2X paint ?

can Rustoleum 2X paint be used on the inside of a clear lexan body? I know it's for plastic but not sure for lexan?

Any help appreciated. "thumbsup"

Re: Rustoleum 2X paint ?

I have used regular Rustoleum, Krylon, and cheap Home Depot generic spray paint on both inside/outside of 4 lexan bodies that were not treated kindly and have not had any paint flake off or crack. I cleaned with dish soap and scuffed with a scotch brite pad, then wipe down with alcohol. Light mist coat x2 then go at it. I think just based on my experience painting almost any surface or material you can think of with almost any brand of paint that prep or lack thereof is responsible for 90% of failure, 9% is technique, and the remaining 1% is compatibility.

Yep. I’ve painted 4 bodies with normal paint(not because I want to, but I can’t get lexan paint to me) and they have been fine. A little bit of flaking around the edges on one, but also I never scuff the body. the flaking spots were also on the outside. So yes, it’ll work and it’ll look good.

It'll work fine, but if its your first paint job, I would stick to paint formulated for lexan, just because it's a little kinder to beginners if you didn't prep the body right.
I've had mixed results with standard spray paint and lexan, sometimes it sticks, sometimes it chips off in the first impact.

Ive done some sample pieces of Polycarbonate w/ 2X paints.

Clean the body with HOT soapy water and then dry.

Scuff with an scouring pad being very careful around the windows.

Wash again with HOT soapy water, rinse and dry.

Wiping with alcoholic couldn’t hurt.

Warm the paint up on a sink of warm water, wipe the cab down, then shake it well for 2-3 minutes.

Apply a mist coat and let it flash (about 15 minutes), then apply a second light coat and again let it flash. Then apply another heavier coat to get full coverage.

Let it dry for several DAYS.

At this point it’s pretty tough.

I’d still back areas that may rub on the body with some Gorilla tape to prevent the paint from being rubbed off.

It isn’t perfect, but it will work. And after you drag it across the rocks for a white, you won’t care so much if it starts to chip a little.

I've had decent luck with the Rustoleum 2X paint but it definitely applies differently than say the Tamiya spray.
Prep is key as mentioned above.
