Wouldn't it be sweet if a company came out with metal gears for the pti? I mean everyone with TC3 spools including all the poulson guys could be unstopable. Man.. that would be nice. |

from john at pti "We've finally found a company that thinks they can make them, the samples are due any time... If they work we'll contact you." |

Metal gears would be a huge hit. I had a mcahinest look at a set of tc3 gear when I was racing dirt oval and he told me they wouldn't be cost effective to make. They need to be mass produced to bring the cost to a realistic level.

here you go , here is the final product its a little work but take your time in grinding the plastic and you should be fine . this took me about a day to do, not the grinding of the plastic but trying to figure out what to cut the bevel gear with . i ended up using a cut off saw from my dremmel and used a tap to make the hole larger , i basically stepped it from the smallest tap to the largest one i had . the bearing is the size that comes with the mini gt for the output shaft i just had some flanged bearings and they seemed to work good good luck and i hope this will help everyone out. |

here is a easier way, maybe ... i was making a lst2 foc tranny and stumbled on the tranny bevel gears for the fr/r diffs . they seem like a perfect fit but i havent used the ouput shaft for the pti i used the mini gt output since its already flat on both ends. here are the parts original bearings and some bearings that fit inside them( i will get the measurments later) metal steel rod 3/16 losi lst2 tranny bevel gears x2 http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/5891 here are the pics now this one has been cut with a cutoff saw and i have 2 more comming to see if they fit in the 3/16 rod , if they dont then i may need to pickup the shaft that this goes into and some cup ends. edit: never mind it fits on the rod i tried it with the cups for the losi brakes so this will be a good upgrade for the diff gears and really no mods will be done except for some drilling in the rod to hold the bevel gear and drilling the ends so it holds pins for the axle cups there is a spring behind the small bevel gear because i didnt have shimms, seems to work well and trust me there is no way you will break these hardend gears Last edited by jombo; 08-27-2008 at 10:27 AM. I would really like to see these produced. I got my poulson axled crawler together and first thing R&P goes just playing around in my appartment :-(. I would try the above but I would like a bolt in set of gears.

If you shim them tight, like 3 or 4 shims on the ring gear side, they hold up surprisingly well-even to my abuse. |

| Metal TC3 gears
Maybe someone will figure out that many people would buy multiple sets of metal gears if they would produce some. I would 3 sets right now.

i cannot make them thats for sure , i wish i could. i made the straight axle the second one down withthe lst2 tranny beveled gears and they seem to work the best, if you could get a set to a machinest i bet they could make something work perfect with those gears. they are small enough to fit in with no grinding but you would need to find a new set of ball bearings to fit the differential

can you post the part numbers, along with part names and manufacturers, of the items you used? I have access to a bunch of machines. Maybe I can make a few sets.

can do , http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/5891 the rod i used was the 3/16 but the hole on the bevel gear uses these for the shaft http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/15302 and the shaft that the bevel gear goes on http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/5894 and the diagram of where these parts came from on the lst2 http://www.losi.com/ProdInfo/Files/P...osion_LST2.pdf |

this is what i have so far the red marks are where the bearings are going, and the solid red making is where i need to put a hollow sleave in between the bearing and the bevel gear so the shaft dosent slide in and out, probably some brake line. and how i made the groove in the rod and i drilled the hole by putting it in the vice and drilled it out withthe drill press where i am going to run into problems is the pins on the end need to be put in after its all been put together and rounded out so it fits snugly in the cups i hope this helps you get started |

Looks good so far. I think if we could just get someone to machine out the gear you are using to fit on the TC3/PTI spool it would make things a lot esier. Im not as handy with these things. Im hoping that someone can do it otherwise Im going to source a local machine shop.
