Default PTI Goliath... Finished....

Goliath is finished....

PTI Goliath:
14 3/4" wheel base

PhantomSteins:
links
lower link mounts
servo mounts
servo sinks
adjustable shock mounts
pirate 10 wheels
masher 2k2s
drag-link steering
Flaming Skullz McAllister body

Nitro TC3 Diffs
Super Rooster
5645MG servos

got it finished this morning, went on a crawl, and for the length, and tire size, didn't do TOO shabby, i need to weight the front wheels/axle area, when i'd get high centered and the front wheels were planted, they just spun, and didn't pull the butt up over.

modified it from the first edition, removed cants, and installed PhantomSteins adjustable shock mounts, which in itself cured my 360 articulation issue...

my 3/16" stretched CVD's are holding up real good, diffs are holding up good, but spur bit the dust...LOL
i have a 90somthing spur i'm going to put in it if i can get it to fit.
also found out my machining of the GD shaft sucked, so will be re-machining a GD shaft and installing a new spur.

the diffs are not locked, but are cranked down as tight as i can get them, if i lock them i'm going to be back to the clickety-diff syndrome, so i'm going to try to get them to slip, but more like a limited slip diff.

but for now, its done, have a couple Juggernauts coming that will need built up, so goliath will look pretty for a while, just like LEX, untill i either get time to play, or i sell em.

IMO it is to long and wide for the tire size. You should try some maxx size mashers?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm because I CAN....
is a trial and error thing, i had it 10 1/2", then decided what the hell, i'll probably shorten er back up to about 12ish wb eventually.

like the mouse said to the girraffe when asked back to the girraffes room... i'll try most anything once....

I had All T's On it but was a little too much for the little diffs to handle.

The next one will be a TLT based, and probably moab XL's. OR i may put the TLT's on this one later. All T's didn't work too well, so they're on the sale block...LOL

the whole TC3 axle setup on this thing is so so, won't handle too much torque. but i try to do the best with what i have to work with.

i'd like to see a pic under the body, and from underneath. neat looking rig, 12" wb would probably help a bunch.

Thats awesome! Ive been wanting to stretch my Goliath.

Did you do lots of testing to get that length? How is the articulation? Enough for crawling? I'm impressed...

thanks,
yes i had some trial and error, at one point, i had 360 degree articulation.....woops, so l added the adjustable shock mounts so the shocks could limit the articulation, also added the modified toplink mounts to raise the top links and bring them closer to a point on the axles, this too helped in limiting the articulation. at this point, i'd say each axle will articulate between 30 to 40 maybe 45 degree articulation. the driveshafts are 142mm long, if that gives you a clue on how much each axle is out. stock wheelbase, if i remember correctly, is only like 8" or so. I also had the "Shafty Lean" because the links were so close in proximity on the axle there was little triangulation, so i made the lower link mounts to spread out the lower links. adjusting the shock mounts on the lower links to raise the chassis, i was able to acomplish more center clearance and start crawling with out getting high-centered on everything...LOL with out any weight on the front axle at this point in time, it is not a super crawler like some of the trucks i've seen, but it crawls quite well. the rear steer helps out ALOT. at some point in time i'm going to bring the front axle back probably 1 - 1/2 inches. as it sets, wheel base is approximately 14 7/8" the majic number for scale-look and crawling ability seems to be around the 12" wheel base mark. more pictures of it can be seen at: http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrow...der_id=1488412 there i have some of the trial / error photos and progress upto the pictures posted here. any more questions, shoot me an E: phantom309oo7@msn.com

Those axles just look weak:?. After seeing a set cracked in half, I know I would kill a set of those.

That body, well, if you can't say something nice.......ah hell, that thing is FUGLY.

Keep us posted on how those axles hold up. I'll be done with my MAXX crawler soon, going to need another project after that

LMAO, well, input is input. like i said i was open to ALL input, so thank you for your opinion RD Really, is all good. as far as the body, YOU DON'T LIKE MY FORD BOSS CONCEPT BODY..... figgured what the hell i needed a lid, and had some mask, and couple cans o paint, and it was either this one, or a maxx streamliner...... ehh, i chose this one to butcher for the cause.....so tried to make a ford concept truck look.... well attempt to make it look decent. :? reguardless, it was a project, and how do we find the flaws in a design unless we build, break, rebuild again...

I was asked about laying tranny down, but unless i want to make the chassis wider, it won't work, oh, and there's the whole chop up the chassis to make the gd fit....

i am going to build a pti truck real soon.
wut electronics u running? im not sure wut esc and batt to buy
once i find a good esc and batt im gonna order everything.
im gonna run a 6 channel comp. radio(airplane) with 2 servos that came with it.
left stick:
up/down-nothing for now i will find some use for it lol possiably a winch
left/right-rear steering
right stick:
up/down-throttle control
left/right-front steering
and 2 switchs on top for lights
will probly just keep stock motor for a while and just mess wit gearing
so really i just need a esc and batt
i was thinking about the duratrax intellispeed foward/revarse esc(only 37 bucks)

as far as ESC's are concerned, Super Rooster is what i'm using, as well as a GD600 and 19 turn quad motor (what the truck came to me with).

i have this truck up for sale also.
but have not posted here in this forum yet, as only 1 of the three trucks i'm selling is a crawler.

OH, and batteries, some use sub-C GP33-3600's, some use GP1100 2/3a cells. I'm personally using the stock 6-cell 1200 mah triangle pack that came w/ Goliath.
