If you are seriously considering buying a Goliath make sure to buy the newest "rock crawler" version as it looks to be sort of a better value than the original version.
While at my LHS I took the time to look over the truck they had built up. I noticed upgrades such as aluminum shocks, ball bearing cantilevers, improved steering servo mount, fiberglass body mount/chassis stiffeners (for lack of a better word), spools, and the even that the ends of the chassis rails were now machined to length.
I did however notice that it still has excessive slop at the input shaft and there is no ackerman in the steering which results in wide turns.
I have contacted PTI in regards to the housing issue and got no definite response as to when a new housing will be available.

There are no aftermarket parts for the PTI unless you get lucky and find something that will cross over like the diff gears or spools from a TC3.
You can get delrin gears from GPM, I have yet to get mine out on the rocks with these gears in it, I just received them late last week.

I do apologize for my slandering of the truck earlier and do take into consideration that I have modded my truck beyond its original intent and that may be why I have my troubles. I do however find it hard to recommend this truck for someone that is looking to get into serious rockcrawling while it still suffers from this main drawback. I'm certain that as this new bigger rock crawler version sells more there will be more owners complaining.
Here is a link to some pics of my truck and some parts I have made for it that I have posted on another board. http://www.one18th.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39339

I guess I am not the best with the way I word things and don't get me wrong, am not a complete hater of the truck (although,I admit I do come off as one). People were asking and I guess I got a little out of hand. I guess it should have switched one sentence around...

So you slander the truck in one sentence, apologize for it in the next, but then state that it may be your own fault?

Your not real bright are you?

for starters over was right.....
if you can start out by buying the crawler version first, because then its less mods that you have to do from the word go.

I am only using the PTI axles in my tuber with the irrang gears and have only had it strip 1 time. IT WAS MY FAULT. I like the PTI axles as they appear a bit more realistic and have just a touch more ground clearance, esspecially if you run them upside down.

Well I have to jump in on this PTI Goliath thing as well. I like the Goliath, yes the axles needed a little work when I put it to gether but I have not had a problem with it in stock form. I think it is a great truck to start out with. It is a new truck with not a lot of aftermarket support but most all new trucks are like that. If people buy the truck and say I want X part enough sombody willl build X part and then it grows from there, take into accont the rockcrawler Goliath PTI is making. I am also using Goliath axles in my BBT project. So go buy a Goliath and enjoy it.
