Here is a update. After she sat on the shelf for a while I decided it was time to work on her some more. Thanks to Uncle Sam and my federal return, I went on a shopping spree at Tower and spent About $1,000 on electronics, motors, servos and deans connectors for this truck and a few scale builds I have going on.

Me and the Magic Hat Winter Ale went to work.

I went with the Novak M2 dig esc , a pair of Integy 55t motors and a CS-170 servo.

I made plate for the receiver using a compartment divider from a tackle box.

She is real heavy so she will need to go on a diet. I'm not going to enter comps with it. I built it to use for fun, so run time times will be more of a priority for me than than comp worthiness.

Any ideas on battery placement will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
John

Looks good there but try to keep all your component as low on the chassis as posible

Thanks! I am planning on putting the batteries low, but then again, I'm not going to be comping with this rig. Not much room for anything on these comp crawlers.

Looks good.
Do some reading in the M2 thread in the electronics section.

Are you in Warwick NY, or RI (or possibly a different Warwick)? I'm not far from Warwick, NY.

My suggestion would be to get several small packs. Cost will be much lower per pack allowing you to get two or three for the price of one large one and they fit much nicer. Leave the big packs for the scalers and let your comp truck be a comp truck.

Thanks! I think this will make a great rig to jump into the lipo world.

I'm running a 3S 1350mah 35C (?) LiPO from CheapBatteryPacks.com. Price was decent, packs are fairly small and it sits on a "shelf" mounted to the central chassis that extends up between the front links.

This is a great batt for you ...just buy a bunch to offset the shipping!! It fits nicely on the under side of the lower front links.

i have a couople 850's and 1250's , i use the 1250's to play around with and the 850's to comp with. When i ordered them from hobby king i had one with a bad cell so if you order some get a couple extra cause there custermer service is real poor and the time it would take to get one replaced isn't worth your time for there cost. I've got about 25 charges on mine so far and there running great but i'm about ready to get some more for when these take a dump on me.

A bunch of us run these packs:

http://powercellbattery.thomasnet.co...wer/pclc3s850c?

We met these guys at the 2010 iHobby Expo, so we bought a bunch and gave them a try. The price is relatively low and they come pre-wired with Deans plugs. I have 4 of them, and they are holding up well. For me, it is also VERY handy that their office/warehouse is only 5 minutes from my FT Job office. The fact that they are in the U.S.A. versus waiting on HobbyKing is also very nice. I have a lot of the HobbyKing Rhino packs, and like them, but I hate the wait.

I'm still debating on running lipo. I know I should , but I am the type of person that would put a lipo on the charger and forget about it until the house burns down. I have a split 6 cell on their from Cheapbatterypacks.com on it now.
