Default Ugly truckling build

I like the other one so much, that my sinister morphed into, that I had to build another one. I am going to try using some pin tires. A Jr hall sensing servo. A chassis that Mustang calls the ugly truckling. Big thanks to HCM for work we did on designing the original sinister. Some dlux wheels with the v cut. Futaba radio gear(4PL). Bully axles of coarse. I don't thing I am going to widen this set. I have found a lot of situations where I just like the scrub.

Interesting!!!

What's the plan for the axles as far as mods are concern?

The biggest thing I am going to try to do this time is cut weight in the gears. The gears are 6mm wide and I don't thing this is entirely necessary. I am going to cut the teeth down to 3.5mm and the sides down to .040".

Mine are narrowed up to 4mm and are holding up fine.

Cool!
The gears I have on the back are machined to 2mm but I left the teeth part with the stock 6mm.
The fronts are machined to 3mm and the gears again are stock 6mm on the teeth part.

Don't forget to take some pictures ;)

I got another bit of goodness from the mail. Put my dlux rear wheels together with crawler innovation foams. Rims spaced out to 1.375".

The wheels are 4.8 ounces a piece without hubs. I got a good start on a couple of delrin and alum. hubs that do not use hexes. There is a lot of fat that I can trim off of them. Also I made them a little long so I can put it together then trim them down to get the desired width.

Made some finishing touches to the 1.5" hubs to use with the dlux wheels. This makes the wheels 11" outside to outside. Just need to add a groove to retain the pin with and O ring. The aluminum ones will get the same treatment as the delrin.

I'm not sure I fully understand how those are going to work!
But for sure I want to!

I was trying to mount my VP hubs on my CF wheels and, to my huge surprise, the VP hubs have API threads and not metric!
No M3 screw.... I'm very disappointed to say the least.
Now I got to buy some API screws (not easy to find in Portugal), or find some other solution like yours ;)

I tapped mine to 3mm. I much prefer the holding power and increased shear strength of fine threads. These are held on just like the v6 hexes. It uses a pin and an o ring to keep the pin in and the nut jams the hub against the pin. It just eliminates the hex.

Sweet!
Same deal for the front V6 right?
It looks like a good and light system.

I'll try to tap the hubs to M3 but I had my doubts if they would hold...

They look like they should hold up well, and save a good bit of weight.

I am going to finish up a set made of aluminum just incase the delrin does not hold up. I put an axle in it and tweaked it pretty hard to see if it would fail. I am sure there is no substitute for torturing the parts on the rocks though.

This is going to be a slower build this time. I do not have near the free time I used to.

I would like to thank the newbie for asking and getting me to make more of an effort. I am going to go a little different direction than originally planed. Using a different topper from a bwd wedge chassis. I like the look and simplicity of the old cab, yet it does not roll over easy.

The axles are not going to have the giant scrub either. I purchased stubs axles and am in the slow process of altering the gears and the axles. I plan on cutting these down to 6" king pin to king pin. Currently they are 6.875". Stock is 5.5". I cut down the axles to .150" and cleared out the stub axles. This increased the steering to somewhere between 51 and 51 degrees. Took a lot of finesse to get them to cycle through a rotation smoothly. I ground out most of the material with a dremel and finished making the round profile with a drill bit as shown in the sticky for making the V4 axles have a better amount of steering.

Great work on those XVD.
What I notice on my car now is that I missing more steering angle...
