| Bully axles... I have questions.
First let me state that I haven't messed with a crawler since my Clodzilla back in highschool 10+ years ago. Adulthood had pulled me away from it, but now that I have a family & son, I want to foster an environment that will allow him to tinker and design the same way I did. (You know, to do my due diligence in preventing him from becoming an interior designer down the road). Ok guys, I'm sure you will be able to decipher by this post that I'm not super familiar with Bully axles, but in what ever variation, they seem to be in wide use in 2.2, super and unlimited class comp crawlers (still unsure what the difference between all the classes are anyway), though I'd like to build a 2.2 class crawler. Most of my knowledge of these axles is coming from RC4WD & there are several variations of the Bully that have me wondering what would suit me best. Though I don't see myself using this in competition, I'd like to build something that abides by the rules. WHERE ARE THESE RULES ANYWAY? The most apparent difference in all of them the width from hex to hex. Also, I want to stay away from offset hubs as much as possible for any reason other than clearing suspension. So onto what axles are what, and what their applications are... These were my initial choice for a 2.2 crawler... Bully Comp 2.2 Front & Rear Axle Then I saw most guys are running these... Even for 2.2 class? Bully 2 Competition Crawler Front Axle And these, which look like a lighter weight, wider version of the first axles... Super Bully Comp Axle with Knuckles |

IMO if you are going with bully axles, I'd buy bully 2 axles. Rules http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/rcca-...-rulesets.html https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...hNyzZU3Pc/edit |

the bully2 axles are the newer version of the bully comp 2.2 axles much better and much lighter and by the way the older bully 2.2 are discontinued (I believe). the super bully axles are the bully 2.2 axles but wider for the 1:8 scale class or super class for moa choices are bully2 axles or berg axles with needed upgrades. you will not be disappointed with the bully2 axles. lots of examples of good components to use in the build threads. and they feel so silky and smooth |

Go with the Bully 2 axles. They are good to go out of the box, no obligatory modifications needed. I love mine |

I think I'm set on Bully 2's, I don't expect or need an axle that can't be improved upon, but for the $350 a set of them cost, I like to know I don't HAVE to modify them before I scrape them up a bit. I've yet to find anywhere that has both a front & rear so I'm not splitting up shipping. I may wait a week or two until I get enough posts to see what, if anything, is in the classified forums here. It may be nice to pick up a rolling chassis or a complete rig to modify... We shall see... |

Yup, RC4WD really put some thought into the Bully2 axles and you can't beat the price comparatively speaking.

Get an extra set of CVD's and upper link mounts. They are the only parts that seem to break. Keep grease in the CVD cups or they will wear quickly.

You will be super happy with them Like said above, grab a extra set of cvd's or get the D-lux knuckles/weights that and the link mount seem to be the weak links, mind you I got a yr out of my CVD's before it broke and the axle mount I just bent a yr and a half later. But others weren't so luck |

So I've been putting together a parts list, mostly of what I see other folks using. The only things I'm having trouble with are the electronics. I've been reading reviews on ESC's with dig vs external dig. I can bring all that up in the electronics forum though. Here's a list of what I think I'd want, along with concerns... ANY input is 100% appreciated! I work as a gunsmith/machinist in an aerospace machine shop so I'd like to make as much of this myself as possible. Bully 2 Axles Servo Mount - ? *Would like a "Behind the Axle" type set-up but the gearbox may prevent that? **Has anyone seen a Bully2 set up this way? Chassis- Home Made - CF lattice & billet aluminum *plenty of adjustability for upper links. **Maybe reduce triangulation of lower links (more inboard on front axle) for steering clearance, moving front shocks a tad inboard on front axle as well... Links - Home Made **Advantage of titanium over aluminum here? Rod ends - ? *Plastic Tires - RC4WD Bully Comp Tires Foams - ? Wheels - 2.2" (Want bead lock, don't have to be CF) Shocks - Integy Type 2 *Any recommendations? Servo - HiTec HS-7954SH ESC - Novak M2 3S (With 55T brushed Terra Claw Motors) **Like the idea of 1 ESC with internal dig, but I don't see many guys using these? Radio - Spektrum DX3.0 or Traxxas TQ3 w/ 3 POS Toggle **Not sure if the original Spektrum DX3 can run the M2 ESC on its 3rd channel? **Already have a TQ3 with toggle. Battery & Charger - Not a damn clue??? I've never messed with LiPo. Honestly what ever will be the least troublesome. QUESTIONS... 1. Why do I want/need a BEC? 2. What size LiPo is recommended? I don't see fitting some huge (regardless of weight) LiPo anywhere on the chassis or axle... 3. The electronics in general, I am only making an educated stab at. I know some folks are running 2 ESC's with an external BEC & external dig. I want a set-up that works, but I'm not about uncasing and cramming 10 pounds of crap into an 8 pound bag. Again guys, any advice or direction is appreciated. I can take my electronics questions to the appropriate forum if needed. |

Get a bec, you will fry stuff or have crap steering. Esc's depend on if your radios capability. I like 2 Sidewinder Micro's. Battery is up to you. If not comping 800Mah 3s will give .5 hour run times depending on how you drive. Shocks scx10 plastic stock shocks. Check out the electronics section for how to wire up.
