| TF2 Shifting Servo Problems
1st sorry for starting a new thread about this...but.... I keep burning up servos shifting my tranny. I am using a Traxxas 3 channel Transmitter 2.4 GHZ. I love it but you cannot adjust endpoints for the 3rd channel. SO the servo is shifting and getting hot and Poof!! Or the ESC gets hot and turns off. Anyway a servo saver is too big it hits the transfer case... ANy Ideas on a set up without being able to adjust endpoints from the radio. Any help would be cool...

I would imagine I could set up something like the Summit has...cause this is the same controller for that I think...

Have you tried a shorter servo arm, might limit the throw just enough

I will post pics of my set up for you this weekend, 2 small springs from a Bic lighter one on either side of a mount (a control rod mount from an air plane) at the servo. The set up is quite similar to a throttle linkage like you would find on a nitro plane, still working on it at the moment (lack of parts till tomorrow) but it should work fine and take all the stress off the servo. other option might be to add a series of 2 or 3 bends in the control linkage to act like a spring and reduce the tension that way, are you using the stock servo mount? if so a modified shift link from a Summit would probly do the trick Just remembered that on the back of the Traxxas radio there is a hole that has a pot in the bottom that you can adjust the swing of the 3rd channel, at least there is on my Traxxas 4 ch, not really an EPA but it might help you dial it in a little closer, I'll be using the TQ4 to run the trans on the 3rd ch. and winch on the 4th ch with a 3 pos. switch, worked very well on another scaler I built and you can dial out the "winch creep" on the 4th ch using the adjustment pot on the back of the radio Last edited by whiplash; 03-22-2012 at 05:26 AM. |

Just ordered the RC4WD EPA hook up for a third channel. Gona give it a try. Might go ahead and install the spring loaded servo horn also that is on the traxxas summit..just for extra insurance. Thanx for the mature people who gave a serious comment.

For future reference, you can adjust the throw slightly with one of the screws on the back of the remote. Not sure if you already knew this but I figured it would be worth posting.

Looking for a little advise here, I installed a full sized servo for my shift setup according to the manual but it feels like it binds when shifting it by hand(setup same as kit instructions). If I put pressure on the servo horn to shift it and keep pressure on it it wont go into gear unless it engages perfectly even when I spin the spur gear by hand. If it hangs up and pressure is on the shift linkage it just jams there and wont go into gear guessing due to the design that the shift colar inside is floating rather than fixed . Any advise here or are they like that be design, just don't want to cook a servo so I think some kind of spring setup is in order here? I have not yet powered it up and run it so it might not even be an issue, I am waiting for a defective rear axle replacement to show up, all 4 leaf holes were drilled out too big and I could slide the m3 screws right into the holes. Just wonding if everyones shift mechanisms work like mine, also noticed that my output shaft for the spur is a little sloppy, has about a 1/16th of play when wiggling it but it is very smooth. Lastly, I have a digital servo for steering and a analog for shifting, is this ok on a 4pl?
