| New servo & esc, poor steering
Hello everyone. Newbie with a question. I recently picked up a TF2 Marlin Crawler RTR. Out of the box the steering quality is poor, as in it does not have enough power to turn the wheels fully when sitting on a table let alone on the rocks. I went to my lhs yesterday and got a Savox SA1230SG servo which has 416oz of torque. I figured I would go ahead and upgrade the esc so I got a HobbyWing QuicRun WP 1080 brushed. Well I hooked it all up, except esc to motor, and the steering power has not changed, if not gotten worse. It still will not turn the tires fully when just sitting on the table. Now I may be writing this prematurely as I have not programmed the esc but I do not see any settings for steering anyhow. Using a 2C 7200mah battery to power system. Side note.. I did briefly hook up a 3C 4000mah to test the Savox before replacing the esc and steering seemed to have improved greatly over use of a 2C. I feel as if I should not have this problem out of a 2C with this setup.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I think I can hear the servo going full swing. Does the Marlin have a servo saver? If yes, there's your problem!

Disconnect the linkage and see if anything is binding by moving the wheels back and fourth by hand. If nothing is binding maybe your radio had a setting for steering throw. Allows how much travel left to right.

In addition to what others have said, I believe your new ESC has different BEC voltage settings. Make sure it's set at the highest voltage your servo is rated for.

Well guys, I honestly don't know what I did last night but I got it working. However my receiver crapped out and left me with no throttle response. So I just swapped the one out of my scx10ii and went on my way. There was a lot of fumbling around with it last night but I feel like I learned some new things which is good. Thanks for everyones input

| Re: New servo & esc, poor steering No it doesn't. Yes, Hobbywing WP1080 has adjustment for this, use included programmer card to set this even though it's working now. |

bringing this back up... and adding a noob question. My TF2 Marlin has the same issue. It arrived a few days ago and, even with tires off the ground, cannot turn fully. Better to the right than to the left, but neither can move enough. Reading this thread, it implies that it's a receiver issue. Am I reading this correctly? I'd hate to have to replace a receiver on a new RTR, but if that's what's needed.... thx. |
