Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I'm slowly getting into crawling and I decided to get a Redcat rs10 then later on I decided to get an r1 chassis. So this is my Redcat r1 build, I'm going to be posting things I do as I go along but if u have any tips or suggestions plz let me know. Preformance and looks is what I'm trying to improve So my r1 chassis came in today http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...88f1138258.jpg And it didn't come with instructions but with a pic I found online it was easy to figure out what whent where. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...39df603086.jpg Then I took both of the axles and put them on the new chassis. After seeing how the crawler sits in not to worried about the links. I might change them laterhttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...1f6343e024.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...bf99bca4dc.jpg Some things that I wan to do next are order some 130mm shocks. So my crawler will sit higher, get smaller lipo battery's, use Pop cans as body panels, get or make bent links. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis the r1 chassis is one of the best improvements to the rs10 IMO a picture of the skid plate please. would recommend a brace between the shocks both front and back don't know how much it really helps but it looks good. haha good place for driving lights too. soda pop cans for side panels? I would have thought molsons beer cans. haha |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I put all the electronics in and I will put them up higher once I get a small lipo but I don't have one right now so I'll just have them below for now. Here are some more pics! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...2dad856432.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...ddc71282af.jpg I wasn't sure exactly what u meant cabron. Haha http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...983be33737.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I was thinking you had the skidplate upside down. but apparently not. look at this optional skidplate, it lets the lower links be attached closer together. some people think this makes the crawlers a bit more stable. http://www.junfac.com/shop/index.php...roducts_id=370 food for thought. something else to consider ....replace the balls in the rodends with balls that have a 3mm hole instead of the 2.5mm. make everything a bit more consistent. you can get a set of about 20 balls in ebay for about 10.dollars http://www.ebay.com/itm/7028X-Hollow...item3aafb9940b for steel or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Axial-AX10-R...item43e0a078c3 for aluminum |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis thanks for those links Cabron i've been looking for something with a 3mm hole that would fit the RS10 :) |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis any new pictures? |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I have been working on making the panels out of the pop cans. Not 100% don't yet. But yet turned out pretty good. I'll post more once they are all donehttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...12919733f6.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis looks like the housings are a bit angled down at the back. this could cause the motor to hang up on the rocks. try moving the upper links farther out on the chassis |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I'm gettin my body in a couple of hours. Does anyone know where the body posts are on the chassis? None of the mounts are flat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis not usual to have a body on an r1. but what axial does and many have adopted is having a post sticking up front and back from body braces. some use regular body posts some use a wider post that is threaded. good luck |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I have been working on the body posts and finally got a spot that will work. I attacked them to the optional shock mounts.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...4779476189.jpg I also finished cutting out the body. I will go around and fix it up with the dremal later. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...f038306489.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I saw this thread yesterday, seemed interesting as well as a font of good ideas and timely too, look through there and even look at some of the posted videos for good ideas on mounting the body http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/paint...dy-mounts.html |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I finished trimming the body and I cut my body post holes. And I used the dremal for cutting holes in the body because I don't have a reamer, and it was super easy! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...436024e55c.jpg also I want a really aggressive kinda monster truck look. So I made the body sit where u can still see the r1 chassis underneath http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...5c1eb5605b.jpg I think it looks really cool and next step is paint! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I have been looking online for paint ideas and things like that and I found this orange wrangler and I'm thinking of doin something Similar.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...8f95276ebd.jpg sorry it's blurry I found it online and it wasn't clear. But I really like that it's turned into a truck. Let me know what u guys think! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis body looks good on there, lets see what you do with paint. haha those shocks need to lean the other way. by having them lean inwards like that you are loosing a lot of the effectiveness of the shocks. the lower links might be better bolted on to the skidplate itself (on the outside holes) than on the chassis tubes. might nee to swap out those rod ends or at least the balls so you can use 3mm screws. all in all rig looks pretty good and it is YOUR rig to do as you wish. are you going with the different tones on the orange like in that picture? |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I have always like that chassis on a Redcat. It sure looks easy to work with when you don't have a motor and tranny on the inside of it. I liked the Monster skins. If I ever do some, I think I will go with "Rolling Rock" it just seems super appropriate for a crawler. Nice work on those body mounts. Not sure if this would work with the look you are going for, but see how the center of the tire tread is Arrows and squiggles? Removing the squiggles and the foams (At least in front)will greatly enhance the tires performance in terms of crawling. Just remember to never let it sit on the tires while not in use, if there are no foams. It will develop a flat spot. |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I have all its finished the body. I will post some pics up soon. And thx overkel I will try taking the foams out then maybe cut out some lugs :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis i am new to rc rockcrawling and have to r1 plus a roller for parts a scx10 deadbolt 2 rockslides with 3 more on the way and 2 chassis on way for parts and or 2 try a build....def addicted and loving it i spend a ton of time reading and following .... thank you and hats off to you all for all the wisdom and knowledge you guys share "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumb sup" these rockslides are my favorite and alot of fun |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Sorry it has taken so long but I basicly have the body finished. There is a few more things I have to decide. Like if I want to put the bumpers on that came with the body or Make new ones.... But for the most part it is done http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...20e17f2d90.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...306ea7afeb.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...ba7ae21112.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...f12074a538.jpg I u guys have any suggestions on the body lemme know :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Will this chassis work on an everest 10? Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis yes the r1 is originally a shaft driven crawler, the drive shafts might be too short or too long depending on what links you use. |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I forgot - you might need to drill some holes in the skidplate for the different tranny or you might be able to use the Everest skidplate let us know what you come up with good luck |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Hello guys. I am starting up with this build again and I want a nice, and small lipo that will fit on this skid plate. Any good suggestions out there? http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...65b004f7c4.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Here are some more pics of the truck!http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...f1a5524b07.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...0ee77a4293.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...36b863f8a7.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Cabron some reason I can't send u a message lol. Idk what's up :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis you have filled up your message space in the forum. clear out the old messages in both the in and out folder and/or buy a star and that will give you more space for messages pictures etc. |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I just ordered some new parts for the rs10 build!! These are what I ordered http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...484cbd8c8c.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...c793fab673.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...c2ed50cf50.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...535725f0ac.jpg now I just have to wait for them to come in! If u have any other things I should buy, tips, or tricks please let me know!! Also feedback on my build is awesome :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis thanks, that lipo checker seems nice I just bought me a pack of three of the checkers, for 7.50 it is not too much to loose if they are not any good we shall see those look like 2 stage shocks, seems to have 2 springs each when you get them take some detailed pics |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I will do. Also on the lipo checkers, it showes how much voltage each cell has. Also u can change how low of voltage u want to set the alarm to go off. So they seem pretty cool also very cheap! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I am looking into getting a front bumper for my rs10. I like the look of the scx10 honcho bumper but I wouldent know how to mount it one my r1 chassis. If anyone knows of a bumper that would be some what easy to mount on my chassis plz let me know!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I frogot to mention this earlier but I did buy high tec servo's front and back http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12...620f9fa79d.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I bought that same skid plate for my rs10 r1. I would recommend mounting the links inside of the skid. You should also bend your lower links for more clearance. I found it helped big time. I will post you some pictures.. |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Yes I will mount them inboard once I get the skid plate and ya post some pics Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis How did u bend the stock links? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis I clamped them in my vise and bent them with a hammer or by hand depending how much meat I had to hold on to. Be careful not to bend too far then bend back because they will break |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Oh ok haha thx, I'm thinking of bending my rear links. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Quote:
Here is a good and short video guide on bending aluminium at home, it will make it easier if you dont got a vice too. But be careful when heating since aluminium quality may vary. But i think you will be ok just bending them cold in a vice as long as you are gentle and dont overbend like skot124 said. Really nice trucks too, almost makes me wish I bought a rs10 ;-) |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis The stock rs10 links are pretty easy to bend on a vice since they arnt round. You can get both links exactly the same if you have more then one bend |
Re: Redcat rs10 on r1 chassis Thanks for the advice guys. If I decide to bend my links that will help out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
