Default Truck Quit-Now what?

Out crawling last night and the rig just stopped. I was about 20 minutes in on a 7 cell battery. Dead. The steering servo works fine. Light goes on when trigger is pulled/pushed, but no response from the truck. Went home and plugged in a fully charged battery and no luck. Ideas???? I have been driving this rig a lot lately and there has been a faint smell of hot/burnt electronics about the rig-I don't know what is normal, but given how difficult the terrain I assume some heat issues from the motor. At this point I do not know where to start looking. Asking for some help with ideas... is there a weak link in the Redcat Gen 7 electronics package?

Thanks

Pat

sounds like you either killed the motor or the ESC. The easiest way to diagnose this is to plug in another brushed motor and see if that one works or not.

Generally the Gen7 electronics are pretty reliable. The ESC is a Hobbywing ESC and there isn't really a whole lot to go wrong in a brushed motor except for brush wear, which is more of a gradual thing.

If I had to guess, I'd guess that your ESC has failed, but plugging in a new motor is the easiest way to confirm.

If the motor has been wet (can get wet from condensation due to heat in humid conditions after a hard run) or if you're running in real dusty conditions, the commutator could be dirty or rusted therefore not having contact.

OR

You simply got a small grain of sand/debris in the motor and it's bound up.

OR

It's a burned up motor.

OR

It's a dead ESC.

OR

It's a combination of any/all of the above.

Another way to test the motor would be to directly power it from a battery.
If it spins, the motor is still fine.

This makes 2...my nephews rig did the same thing. I've come to the conclusion the esc is fried. Motor works when directly wired....but not with the push of the trigger. Steering works fine.

Mine was the motor. It did nothing but spit out bits when I tried to hard wire it. Bought a HH and I am VERY happy with she runs now.
