Decided to dust the cobwebs off this thing and walk around where I grew up.. made me miss the "country" side.

I really need a winch.it is just too heavy.. anybody use this?

That's a really pretty spot to crawl! There's nothing like that here in Florida though. I have a purple gen8, but I'm the kind of guy to wear the parts out completely before upgrading. I'm gonna be getting some of the longer Desert Lizard shocks soon, I have to keep refilling the stock ones and bleeding them over and over again. The dang seals wont stop leaking.

We are sometimes lucky here in socal.

Great idea on the upgrading when needing too. Technically cheaper and wont get burned out so quick.

Yea stock shocks sucked. I will recommend a upgrade to a 1080 esc and your choice of motor. I have the holmes trailmaster 21t. Really good at crawling and descending but I wish I had a little more wheel speed though. But it made it a whole new rig.

Re: My GEN8 BUILD

Thanks for the tips! I have a Redcat branded 1040 brushed esc in my boat running two motors and two nimh batteries. The hold up to a lot of abuse, but eventually I will end up swapping my Gen8 esc to a 1080 as I have heard a lot of good about them. I have a 35 turn motor kicking around but that's probably gonna be too slow. Definitely gonna be upgrading the shocks first as they are the only real problem with the truck so far. I had a Gen7, and the driveshafts were terrible. I just drove it until the u joints popped apart. Did they fix that with the Gen8? So far they have been fairly durable, but I'm not beating on my Gen8 as hard as the Gen7.

Nice. I am 100% certain..my driveshafts are the only thing left that is original.

Almost finished. Need to make some aluminum skids under it somehow. Not 100% sure I like it. But It is the first so not bad.

That rear bumper looks sweet!! How thick of an aluminum are you using? Are you gonna make a skid for the bumper?

Thx. Just some .025 Yea so it will slide on things instead of hanging up on them.

Gigantic skid plate at the rear! I might have to do that with my stock bumper! Unfortunately there is a distinct lack of rocks in Florida, so my truck really only sees concrete piles, loose dirt, and grass. :lmao:

You have man made rocks lol.

Yea. Big ass=big ass skid plate.

Got my Chinese front bumper and winch in. Fits OK. Way bigger then the pictures. But whatever. Might put stock one back on with winch well see. Not sure if I like it with the stinger piece on or off...

Yea me too. It was ordered before I decided to build the rear. So I'll run it for a bit and see if winch lasts. If not I'll build a bumper designed around that crazy warn 8274 winch.

Re: My GEN8 BUILD

That is indeed, a massive winch. I guess a big winch is needed for big butts!

Re: My GEN8 BUILD

Got it pretty much done. Gotta trim up the edges a little. Not sure if i want to paint it black and let it get scratched/rust or just let it rust...

Bumper looks good and functional. Where does the tube/rod you've run through the stock bumper mount attach?

ferp420 04-22-2023 08:02 AM

Re: My GEN8 BUILD

i dont know about the skid plate on the bumper it dosent look bad dosent look good ether probably dose what its saposed to though i dont know if its needed
if it was painted that could tell the whole story right there if there are lots of scratches than its needed no scratches than its not

now if it had a matching front bumper that would change how i feel about it.for.sure

Logan’s RCAdventures 04-24-2023 06:48 PM

Re: My GEN8 BUILD

I think the skid plate looks great! Your not really gonna see it while driving, and its a skid plate so who cares how it looks. I'd let it rust up and everytime it scrapes the rocks, you might be able to see where it slid over. The other guys are also right, it would be sweet to see a custom front bumper as well!

It mounts like the stock bumper kinda. 2 screws from underneath pinch the tube. Like a set screw.
