My GEN8 BUILD First R/C since the mid 90's, first crawler ever. So much fun. Unfortunately, after the first run 3 shocks were sagged and leaking. The plastic caps were warped and company did not warranty nor did they have any in stock to warranty..so that started a slippery slope of mods. Front Treal brass inner, outter, and c mounts. QUE-T amazon beadlocks https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 injora roof rack https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Powershift r/c battery dead man switch. redcat light kit PRO-LINE scaler shocks. But I think I ruined it with the roof rack...it looks so good but its now really top heavy. I put some soft springs on the shocks thinking it would sit low and have alot of droop etc. But as soon as it side hills kinda it just flops over. Such a bummer. Will have to play with the springs a bunch, because I dont wanna ditch the rack! May end up having to use a different one with the spare. We will see. Def needs some sticky tires, and a better esc and motor. But that's it so far. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a4104dda_z.jpg20210117_155726 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...263611c6_z.jpg20210105_122102 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0b1500f6_z.jpg20210109_121614 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d65e048e_z.jpg20210105_123202 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5ea2d56b_z.jpg20210121_124343 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...62dd46c4_z.jpg20210214_121614 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr |

Re: My GEN8 BUILD Quote:
Maybe something to read up on but I've heard that weighting the wheels has more downside than up (increased rolling resistance/lag/centrifugal issues at speed/stress on the axle shafts and bearings) could be a bunch of nonsense but worth investigating before you do it. |

Re: My GEN8 BUILD you could also put the spare tire on a diet loose the foam and the back side of the rim i just use the face of the rim every little bit helps |

Re: My GEN8 BUILD If you're going to put a half-cab body on your scout I'll understand the weight savings.....but, it's a scout body....she has a wide bottom which makes her top heavy naturally. So, with that said....go ahead and use that roof rack...put that hilift jack on the hood....put that dirt bike on the rear......install that full interior.....she is what she is and no wheel weights is going to fix that. I LOVE MY 11.26LBS SCOUT!!!!!...She's pretty!!!! Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD Quote:
Got it put together. Going to test it out today. Gotta fix the motor wiring, it bugs me. Soldered it up and was like shit!!! I am super bummed because the remote battery switch on the roofrack does not work with the esc. Gotta figure that out. May just turn it on with the button then off with the battery. The suspension is way better but it still sags only to one side for some reason. If I just twist it by the front bumper...it will rebound almost 100% on drivers side but on passenger side it will go about 50%. Cant think of anything that might bind...maybe the slight bumpsteer issue might affect it?? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a58245ec_z.jpg20210225_153115 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a2962ae6_z.jpg20210225_153141 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3849217b_z.jpg20210225_153137 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD My club 5 servo relocation and husky links came in so I put those on over the last couple days..the instructions were fr the GEN1 so had to do things a little different. The servo cannot mount on top and the panhard bar has to mount from the back because of the lower double shock mounts. and the relocation mount just barely touches the motor. Had to bend a connection out of the way to get it to clear. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6bc5209f_z.jpg20210305_060718 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...eb7dbc2b_z.jpg20210302_053844 by Randy Schisler, on Flickr |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD Treal diff cover helped mine a lot. I also have the C hubs, metal bead locks and brass at all outer portals. Showdown Duratrax tires too. Mounted a 3D printed roof rack along with the interior, door handles wipers and gas cap as well as the lights. Thing performs outstanding even with the high center of gravity. Just got a winch which will help with the added front end weight. The only thing left I have to do is install the quicrun 1080 and HH Trailmaster 21t I just got for it. Do like your husky links and will probably do that too at some point. |

Crawler is kinda on back burner. Someone came and ruined most of the track I built at the local spot. Not sure if it was some punk kids or some homeless idiot. And i got A e-revo..So once the new r/c smell wears off ill be back to the crawler. haha |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD So I spent some money... Got tired of the E-revo breaking and a few coworkers got into the crawler scene too...so got back into the GEN8...Here is the list that I did..and o man it is so planted now. -Treal full axles/brass end to end front and rear. -Treal aluminum transfer case -Redcat aluminum transmission case -Hyrax pro10128-14. dual stage foams. -Reefs 422hdv2 servo. <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/168779367@N08/51629474140/in/dateposted-public/" title="20211004_203111"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51629474140_f7438d2eef_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="20211004_203111"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/168779367@N08/51629474560/in/dateposted-public/" title="20211019_212139"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51629474560_59c74cb2fa_z.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="20211019_212139"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/168779367@N08/51629474915/in/dateposted-public/" title="20211024_164416"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51629474915_98408ba106_z.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="20211024_164416"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/168779367@N08/51628621651/in/dateposted-public/" title="20211022_121443"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51628621651_6bc889a6f9_z.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="20211022_121443"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/168779367@N08/51628841178/in/dateposted-public/" title="20211024_164327"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51628841178_5cacb21c28_z.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="20211024_164327"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD I'll bet that sucker is super planted with the brass axle housings!!! Looks great man. |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD Have a bit of Treal on my AXE rig too. F&R Inner Portal housings, Chubs and outer housing on the rear, F diff cover is Treal. Also have the now discontinued brass perches and spring colors for the shocks. Still have stock Axle housing F&R though as the plastic just slides better and has been holding up well to my abuse. If I do have a housing issue, I'll grab a set of the new HD Housings from RC. My pig already weighs 10 3/4ish lbs. |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD Quote:
I went with 45 weight in the shocks as well so the little side hilling I did I had almost no body roll. But I have noticed when climbing under torque it will lift a wheel now...so not sure if that will be a huge problem or not. But man i agree it looks cool 8) |

Re: My GEN8 BUILD That's a really pretty spot to crawl! There's nothing like that here in Florida though. I have a purple gen8, but I'm the kind of guy to wear the parts out completely before upgrading. I'm gonna be getting some of the longer Desert Lizard shocks soon, I have to keep refilling the stock ones and bleeding them over and over again. The dang seals wont stop leaking. |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD Quote:
Great idea on the upgrading when needing too. Technically cheaper and wont get burned out so quick. Yea stock shocks sucked. I will recommend a upgrade to a 1080 esc and your choice of motor. I have the holmes trailmaster 21t. Really good at crawling and descending but I wish I had a little more wheel speed though. But it made it a whole new rig. |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD Thanks for the tips! I have a Redcat branded 1040 brushed esc in my boat running two motors and two nimh batteries. The hold up to a lot of abuse, but eventually I will end up swapping my Gen8 esc to a 1080 as I have heard a lot of good about them. I have a 35 turn motor kicking around but that's probably gonna be too slow. Definitely gonna be upgrading the shocks first as they are the only real problem with the truck so far. I had a Gen7, and the driveshafts were terrible. I just drove it until the u joints popped apart. Did they fix that with the Gen8? So far they have been fairly durable, but I'm not beating on my Gen8 as hard as the Gen7. |

Re: My GEN8 BUILD Quote:

Re: My GEN8 BUILD Gigantic skid plate at the rear! I might have to do that with my stock bumper! Unfortunately there is a distinct lack of rocks in Florida, so my truck really only sees concrete piles, loose dirt, and grass. :lmao: |

Yea. Big ass=big ass skid plate. Got my Chinese front bumper and winch in. Fits OK. Way bigger then the pictures. But whatever. Might put stock one back on with winch well see. Re: My GEN8 BUILD Bumper looks good and functional. Where does the tube/rod you've run through the stock bumper mount attach? |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD i dont know about the skid plate on the bumper it dosent look bad dosent look good ether probably dose what its saposed to though i dont know if its needed if it was painted that could tell the whole story right there if there are lots of scratches than its needed no scratches than its not now if it had a matching front bumper that would change how i feel about it.for.sure |
Re: My GEN8 BUILD I think the skid plate looks great! Your not really gonna see it while driving, and its a skid plate so who cares how it looks. I'd let it rust up and everytime it scrapes the rocks, you might be able to see where it slid over. The other guys are also right, it would be sweet to see a custom front bumper as well! |
