So I've seen a couple different methods of making these sand ladders on YouTube but never really liked some of them. I haven't tried these out yet but they don't seem to be flimsy at all.
Material you will need:
Drill
Joist end strap
5/32 metal drill bit
File
Your choice of paint

First I started by cutting it in half and made each steel piece 4.8" long. Next I marked my choice of hole pattern on both ladders.
Then put the ladders on block of wood to drill holes though the ladders. I made sure to put lots of force while drilling so I had decent dimples on the back side of the ladders.
After drilling all the holes I filed down all the jagged edges and painted the black.turned out better than I was expecting.

Also used tin snips to cut the metal.
