Default Class 1 comps

not sure if this belongs here.
We're starting to get a group of Class 1 guys together.. so i want to set up a class 1 "trail" system..
Are there specifics as to what a class 1 trail has?
Do they follow the same lines as the Class 2 guys but not so extreme?
I know the gates are closer than class 2.
Do i need to create "texture" different than class 2/3 guys?
is it timed differently?
is it more life like?
etc etc etc...

Sounds like you're on the right track as far as what a Class 1 course should be like. We run Classes 1, 2 and 3 once a month here at ORCRC. We make the Class 1 courses quite easy. I like to make them pretty long and make sure that a stock Gelande type vehicle can drive it without more than 10-15 penalty points. This allows the better drivers with better performing vehicles the chance to drive through and be placed based on time or be separated by 1 or 2 points.

I think Class 1 courses should involve things like sand, dirt, mud and roots more than pure rock. This makes it more realistic and fun. Of course I like to make several slightly more difficult gates and always 1 really difficult gate that is a bonus. I tend to keep most gates in the 12-15" wide range to give people different lines to try. Class 1 is really fun because you have to pick good lines and know what your rig is capable of, no point and shoot like the bigger tire classes. The most important thing is to have fun and settle into what's comfortable for your particular group of drivers. Good luck!
