The Vanquish Ripper

This year at AxialFest, Vanquish showed off what's possible with the Axial chassis by releasing their prototype truck, which I've dubbed "The Ripper". It's a tube chassis truck on the Axial SCX10II frame rails, machined completely from block aluminum. Yes, the tubes, the panels, everything.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/hXflwq.jpg
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/sJn40s.jpg

It's an amazing feat of engineering and shows what Vanquish is capable of. Not only does it look incredible, it performs just as well. Harley, Jim and Casey Currie put them through their paces and it's truly amazing to watch. They did not spare the prototypes and beat on them hard. There's no plan right now to produce it on a large scale, but if there's enough interest, they may do it.

Here's a video I was honored to put together:

EDIT: They just put a pre-order up on their site.

Awesome trucks. Put me down on the interest list!

man I love the chassis, you can see the tubes looks so good and functional love it.

Re: The Vanquish Ripper

Yep badass for sure.

VP just put them up on the site for sale. $500 deposit and $1399 remaining balance. Total $1899.

Mountainsofbeer 07-18-2017 10:01 PM

Re: The Vanquish Ripper

I don't think I'll be getting that by the boss. But still.. Vanquish built RC.. so nice the price isn't terrible really considering its custom.

Yes but you will need another 1500k to finish up that project to get it run

No axles, no frame, no electronics, wheels, tires..............

But nice

This is all over the FBook. Does anybody have a photo of it without a body? I want to see the nekkid chassis.

What do you all get for $1,900?

Wait a second. $1,900 and a "discount" on the missing parts? You could build a complete Matzilla rig for $1,900! What am I missing?

A fool and their money are soon parted.

Someone will buy it and all will instantly recognize that they had no building skills and simply tried to buy street cred.

I bought this for 1900. Holds 3 trucks and tools in the trunk, not to mention ice cold a/c

Now I will preface that these things are pretty badass, BUT shouldn't the product pictures actually show the things included? No point in showing 150 pics of the fully built rigs if I've yet to actually see a picture of the bare chassis, panels, and parts all laid out to see what actually makes up this kit.

What you need to complete a roller (not included):

SCX10-2 Chassis rails
SCX10-2 RTR skid plate (or original SCX10 skid plate)
SCX10 Bumper that bolts in between the frame rails (not to the outside) and is under 3.75in wide
SCX10 Rear chassis crossmember
Axial 3-gear transmission (complete with slipper and spur gear assembly)
Axial Bomber Interior
Axial Yeti Fuel Cell
Axial EXO radiator
Vanquish Products SCX10-2 F9 front axle with servo on axle mount
SCX10-2 knuckles and kingpin bushings
SCX10-2 rear axle of either style (Currie RockJock or F9)
SCX10-2 axle internals (gears, shafts, lockers, hexes, etc)
SCX10 driveshafts (this truck has a wheelbase slightly longer than the standard 12.3in but most SCX10 compatible driveshafts should work without an issue)
5 - Vanquish 1.9 wheels with 475 hubs (or 350 hubs if using the KMC XD Center Cap)
5 - Tires and foams (max tire size of 4.75in, when using the maximum tire size you will experience some rubbing still)
90mm scale style shocks (up to a 4in shock will work but larger bore shocks may have clearance issues with the rear sway bar)
Bearings and hardware

If I were to build one of these, I'd want nice parts to complement the parts from the Ripper kit. This could easily be in the $3-4k range for a complete rig. It's definitely not for everyone.

If you're on Facebook, check Harley's page. He's been posting the build up on these since the start. It's pretty incredible and ridiculous all in one. I see the amount of machine hours in these but I'm not looking to be $1900 lighter.

Right, and I suppose the only people that would want a kit like this don't really care, but I figure the product page would at least have a picture like this:

Why does this surprise you? It wasn't all that long ago someone posted a thread about a $1,000.00 SCX10. People clearly showed how unimpressed with spending money for the sake of just spending it was.

As a showcase for a companies a manufacturing techniques, it is a pretty cool idea.

As a product, no so much.

this rig has nothing at all similar with that 1000 scx10 thread...
this is absolutely a cool project and im a little surprised it hadnt been posted anywhere on rcc.

but really... i read people making snarky statements and im reminded why a paying vendor of the site and/or one of the most popular build thread guys choose not to post here anymore.

So we should do nothing but rave and praise VP and Harley ?
Money and success gives an attitude of accomplishment , and many forget where they came from.
I think this shows with this rig.

I always loved looking at 100k customs, but looking at a hand made build, you see the passion.

This is one sweet rig, but reality is nothing any of us can possibly own.
I personally am waiting for the Incision version of this.

Doesn't this swing both ways? Apparently nobody felt the need to post it, not even Harley himself. This rig having hundreds of man-hours poured into it vs the $2000 SCX10 really isn't comparable, but I guess it was something only the Facebook and Instagram crowd deserved to see.

Re: The Vanquish Ripper

Did anyone consider that the VP folks did this for themselves, to see what could be done and to have fun whilst doing it?

They're certainly not forcing anyone to buy it, and since it can be machined at will, they don't have to carry stock on any single thing. Let the pre-orders come in, and make to order. If they sell, great. If they don't, also great.

Especially for those that have one.

I know what you mean but the main reason I don't do build threads any longer is time. I used to sit at a desk with hours a day to post my builds and respond to comments. Now I actually work all day, and love it. I barely have time for videos even and they help pay the bills.

I wish I had time to document this build, it was our intention to do so. But this whole truck was done in less than 60 days. For those that understand design and machining, that may mean more to them.

This truck is incredible. We didn't design or build it to sell. Some people want it though, so we will let them buy it and be happy to see what they do with it. The value will be lost on those that don't understand what it is, and I don't really care to try and convince anyone otherwise. It's something you either appreciate or not, and that's fine. I have a $250 low end G-shock Watch, but it doesn't mean I cant appreciate a $20k Rolex even though it's not for my budget/priority. 8)

I wouldn't be surprised, the page on their site has always mentioned a "limited quantity". They take a long time to manufacture relative to their cost too, otherwise if it was like pumping out wheels I'm sure they'd happily continue.

Harley 04-15-2019 11:19 AM

Re: The Vanquish Ripper

Yes it’s being discontinued. I’m too far behind on them and going to finish all of them that have been preordered and then that’s all. They were cool projects but just don’t make sense as a product to try and keep up with like that. Just focusing high demand products is the plan still.
