Default My attempt at building the ultimate super!

I have been talking about it for quite a while, and have been gathering parts for a LONG time. Just gathering parts for this rig broke my bank, it's by far the most expensive rig I have ever put together.

My goals for this Super are to have a very competitive, reliable, and lightweight rig, that can go out any day and have a chance at beating the top rigs in the nation. One of the major focuses on this rig will be to maximize the steering, I want as much possible throw as I can get, and I want as much power as I can get.

I am going to be keeping things light now, so that if I need to add weight later I can add it exactly where I want it.

The build list consists of the following:

-Custom built to my specs 3.6" Eritex beadlocks.

-4 HiTec HS-7950TH servos which will be providing nearly 1000oz of torque to each axle. I chose the HiTec servos because I was able to purchase their servo programmer that I can use to sync the 2 servos per axle without having any additional syncronizers on the rig to worry about. The servos will be set exactly the same and synced internally.

-2.2 Berg axles, with dual long side tubes added.

-SDS Customz Super 300 cvd's front and rear, all 4 long sides. I did this not only for durability, but also for the extra steering these axles allow.

-HB Rover tires that have been modified by 666 to fit my 3.6" beadlocks.

-Vanquish Products Berg High Steer Knuckles front and rear.

-New Era models 14mm hexes.

Today was really my first day to sit down and try to get some work done on this thing. My goal for the day was to get the long tubes added to the axles, get the axles fully assembled, and build a pattern for the servo mounts, I got it all done.

Here are all the parts I started with.

My first step was to drill out the New Era 14mm hexes so that they would fit over the 8mm Super 300's.

Next I took the axle cases apart so I could re-drill the one side of the case and bolt the long tube onto it.

I then installed the Super 300's as per their directions, added the Vanquish knuckles, bolted on the wheels, then fell in love with the amount of steering I have

Let's just hope that with the finished product I can use it all.

Next up was to figure out how to make my servo mounts.

The plan was to make one solid piece of delrin the entire axle width that both servos could mount to.

With nearly 1000oz of torque this mount needs to hold it's place well, I think it'll do fine.

I started by hacking up some stock berg bumper mounts. The best way I had to do that was to mark them, screw them to a board and use my scroll saw.

I used some styrene I had laying around to make my pattern. It's much cheaper to use for patterns then delrin, and it's super easy to work with.

I started by making a pattern for each side.

I then took those 2 pieces, changed a couple little things, and made it into one piece that ties the 2 sides together.

Now that I have it pretty much how I want it, I'll cut it out of delrin.

This is also where I left things for tonight, I hope to get to work on it a little bit tomorrow before going back to work on tuesday.

Looks like you might have clearance issues after you mount the tires against the endbell of the motor

rentstdi makes a very good point

your going to lose 5-10 degrees off of your steering unless you running a tire that has a side wall height of less than 1/2"

but then again im sure you have already figured out a solution

looks insane so far

what chassis?

Hmmm, I wonder what your going to do with that upper link mount? A dream build coming to reality. How could anyone not subscribe to this?

I've got a couple of ideas on how to deal with the tire hitting the motor, I really need to get my hands on the tires though before I can do anything about that.

I am not 100% sure on what I am doing as far as the chassis, I've got several ideas that are bouncing around in my head, we'll see how tomorrow goes.

Default looks great

Wow a all out super berg!!! Can't wait to see more. You know that when you build somthing so nice with all the best parts then in no shape or form can you blame the rig in a comp. I always like to leave that as an option. LOL
