| BULU Productions FJ40 build for Toyo
So, I'm sure most of you guys know who Brett (aka Toyofast) is, and have seen his amazing videos. What most of you don't know are the sacrifices that he has made this year to be able to afford a new Hi-definition Sony video camera, and to be able to film the MSD Scale Nationals. Brett started selling all of his R/C stuff this past spring, and basically had nothing left to drive. Norm (team3six) got ahold of me in early June and said he was bummed to learn that Brett didn't have a scaler anymore, and wanted to do something about it. We decided to PM and call as many people from the Montana Scale Nationals and see if they would be willing to donate parts and/or money to make this happen. No more than 3 days later I had $300 in my Paypal and at least 9 boxes of parts headed my way from all around the country. I was truly moved by the response we had gotten, plus over the next 2 weeks, I had at least one PM ever day saying that someone had heard about this "secret build" and that they wanted to be part of it. I went over to Tammies because Ryan Gerrish told me that they had a Proline Bushwacker body and he would hold it for me. Brett works at a Toyota dealership, and I figured that this would be a perfect body for the build. I cut the body up and sent it to Andy (exesivefire) for paint. Moving ahead 1 1/2 more weeks......I was back from vacation and went to the post office to get all the packages that they had held for me. It was like the best Christmas ever, I walked out of there with no less than 10 boxes, one of them being the freshly painted body from Andy. Here are all the parts donated by everyone: Dumptruck: SCX-10 chassis, 645 servo for the winch, and a 2200mah 3-cell lipo. Unimoger: Axial axles with aluminum c's, high steer knuckles, cvd's. Team3six: Holmes 35t handwound, MSD 1.9 aluminum wheels, all the cool scale accessories. Grizzly4X4: Axial transmission with stainless outputs, MIP drivelines. Exesivefire: Painted the body, SCX-10 shocks. Hotwheels000: 1.9 flatirons The Cow: huge work mat. KevenP: 2200mah 3-cell lipo. Rbgerrish: Proline Bushwacker body. Bluemonster: servo parts. Bowtie: Custom stickers. Miniwheeler: 5955 steering servo. Crawln Coles: Delrin t-case. Burrlytlt: Hand Brothers steering kits. Schlabinski: great deal on a slightly used DX3R. H3RESQ: Tekin FXR with a Castle BEC. Superdave (SDS customz): Super 300 cvd's War Pig: Interior, tubework, f/r bumpers, about 20 hours worth of work. All these guys donated money, and without them, this never would have been built: Big Baller Dezfan Ecoli Just Zach Chino63 Justinart24 Skid Quite a pile of parts. Here are the parts on the Cow R/C work mat after working on the suspension a little bit. After assembling the SCX-10 chassis and bolting the MSD 1.9 wheels onto the axles, I just had to set the body onto the chassis and see how it looked. Norm did a great job on the seats. I kind of used this truck as the inspiration for the cage. I had to make an adapter plate to mount the t-case in the stock axial tranny spot. Nice fit. More to come....... |

Wow that really cool! I've enjoyed every one of Toyos videos and to know he sold all of his stuff to get a good camera is dedication so it's cool of you guys to do this for him. It's good to see that there are still people out there that care about more than just their selves. Nice work, it's a sweet rig!

I can't thank everyone enough.... I knew the RC Crawling community was a great group but to actually have it do work for me brought tears to my eyes last Sunday. I kept my sunglasses on so no one could see. The whole thing even made my wife cry and my father in-law got watery eyed once they found out. I'm still in shock! Keep posting Tim!!! I want to see more! |

Was happy to be a part of this, watching what Brett put himself through this year just for the integrity of the shot, I was stoked to be a part of this, Wish I could have done more. Couldn't be more deserving Brett |

Thanks to Tim and Norm for heading this project up and to all those that helped with the parts and money to make it happen. I am glad to have been able to help out with this. Good video of crawling is something I absolutely love and to repay Toyofats for his commitment to filming Scale Nats is something I was glad to do. Plus he's a true asshole as DTP said. The rig is looking great. Extra props to you Norm for making the video equipment. Last edited by Grizzly4x4; 08-12-2010 at 11:26 AM. |

Started on the sliders. They are going to support the cage with stand-offs, and will sandwich the interior tub between plates on the bottom of the cage and the stand-offs. Starting on the cage. Cutting and bending the battery tray. Brazed plates on the bottom of the cage. Off to the sandblast booth. Here you can see the stand-offs and plates to mount the cage. Also just realized that I forgot to take pics as I built the rear bumper...... Paint..... Assembly.... More to come..... |
