Default Scale ROD Crawler - It's built from rods!!

Well, this is my first attempt in scratching a scale crawler... It all started from my TB01..

Took off the diffs, cut into shapes, and get ready...

And.. here are the overall driveline layout..

The RODs are comin!!!

Made of T6061 alu, some 6.5mm diameter and some 4.35mm diameter.. All joints are M3 drilled, and tapped..

I've applied to get myself a torch, and guess wat, a big NO from my wife!!!

And, when the screws are in position, it becomes like this!

And like this:

Now, its time to go back to the diffs..

Rods are cut, drilled, and tapped where necessarry..

Also, I've made 2 under chassis guard, serves as link holder too!

And, when they are joint together, I get these!

A different angle:

nice work i have been toying with the same idea for a scale jeep cage. did you use solid or tube? i am trying 1/4 tube to see how it holds up. also did a test piece and jb welded the joints as i put them together for strength /rigidity and to smooth out the joint for that professional welded look. so far my test piece has held up pretty good..

mrmaxxman,
Its all solid, not tube. Its all because I couldn't find tube from my local supplier.. hehe

About this JB thingy, I was thinking just the same as u... screw first, the apply JB, the paint. for professional welding look.. But since im goin for bling bling effect, guess I have to drop the idea..

Thats looking sharp! Different but I like it! How was it to bend the 6061 solid rod? any breakage when bending? Can't wait to see more.

This turned out pretty cool. Just cut your wife off until she gives in on the torch.

Did you use a drill press to fish mouth the joints?

chino63,

I have a wood block with a V-groove line, then secure the rod to a table clamp, use the wood block, fit the rod into the v-groove lining and push... and push... and push...

I don't have a tube bender, and thats y I came out with this idea..

Hmm... I'll say I will weld her a cage for her hamsters, then I might get a YES... ??
