| Weekend trip suggestions?
Steph and I were planning on visiting some friends in Bristol this weekend but something came up and they are tied up, so we have a few days off lined up and looking to get out of town, somewhere "moutain-ish". We've done Gatlinburg, Chimney Rock/Lake Lure, Grandfather Mtn, Helen, and Boone allready. Looking for somewhere new. Ideas? |

Leaves are changing. If your just wanting to relax you can check out Highlands, NC and alot of the little towns and the area. GPS helps.

Yea Kev if you go there there's alot of places in Cashiers to go see. Wendall may know, but I think you can hope the train in Dillsboro and ride to Bryson City I may be completely wrong, but its been years since I've gone up there.

I vote Highlands, NC as well. If you go there...plan a nice dinner to Wolfgangs on Main...VERY GOOD...on the pricey side...but worth it. There's also quite a few shops and a sandwich shop in the main intersection with good ice cream too. Wendall is right on with the waterfalls...more than you could possibly check out in one weekend! I use to spend a lot of time up there when I was at Clemson...there was good wheeling in that area...not anymore really.

The leaves are starting to change colors here in Western North Carolina. The Highlands/Cashiers area would be a great plan for one day. If you are looking to take a drive and enjoy the scenery I would suggest jumping on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Cherokee and driving it. You can also go thru Cherokee on 441 into Gatlinburg for another scenic drive. If your looking to do any hiking or mountain bike riding there are some spots around Bryson City to look in to. There are also some nice hikes on the Parkway and on 441. Plus you have the spectacular view from Clingman's Dome on 441. I live in Bryson City and work at the casino in Cherokee so I'm a lil familiar with the area...

Check out Little Switzerland and make sure to drive or better yet ride on Hwy226A and Hwy80. Both are awesome roads on a motorcycle

Really wanted to do Highlands, but being short notice, the only decent, not 8 bedroom or stupid priced cabin I could find was in Maggie Valley. The cabin itself was really nice, hot tub on the deck and all with a great view. We loved it. Maggie Valley itself is OK, first time I had been there, but you can tell the shitty economy is hitting as there are alot of vacant buildings. Cherokee is uh....yeah....if they decide to serve alcohol in the casinos I "might" go back, otherwise, it was kind of a dump. But we did take vaders advice and run the Blue Ridge parkway from Cherokee to Ashville on the way home and man it was really great. Scenery and the foliage was awesome. Sucks that I forgot my camera |

Has it been a while since you've been to the casino? We have been serving alcohol there for around 2 years now. The casino might look a lil rough on the outside, but that's because we are almost at the end of a 4 year, $650 million dollar expansion. If you haven't been there in a few years, you should take another look. Just had Willie Nelson in concert there on Saturday night. Maggie Valley is decent, but you are right about the economy there. The Parkway is just one of the beautiful drives around WNC. Glad you enjoyed the drive...

| train ride
Bryson City is a little town. It's nice though. The train ride is good. My wife and I took it last month with our two daughters. It's expensive, but it was fun. Highlands is a great little town too. |
