Default Hellcat 3.0 (playing with bumpers)

Once upon a time I had a JPS clod crawler. I thought she was good looking and great performing. She looked like this.

I was proud of her, then I discovered RCC... ;)

Your rigs forced me to rebuild her.
Rethinking Hellcat

I rebuild the rig following the trends I found here, but basically the Kittie remained the same.

She performed very better, but I wasn't completely satisfied.
I rebuilt her again now.
I can still call her a JPS based rig, but the complete JPS frame is gone now

The rig now look like this.
I need a new lid, but the crowd pleazer doesn't convince me at all, so I returned to the old trashed body (a bit hacked ;) )
I removed the cantilevers and completely rebuilt the rig.
I kept only the axles and the links from the 2.0 release.
A couple of poser

Flex show

CG seems to be low enough

And what's under the lid.
I built a new essential frame out from the 2 JPS bumpers.
Each bumper forms one of the side "plate".

What do you think?

Looks nice! Good idea with the bumpers.

It's a 5x4 meters wide and 3,3 meters tall with 3 different inclinations.
Right behind the curtain you can see in the background there's my workshop ;)

buddy, make sure you keep that chassis. I already stop selling JPS stuff, I still have one for my self. Glad you made it into a rock crawler...

im not sure what to say ... i really like the way the clod with jps looked on your site. the only thing i noticed was the llinks setup looked more for speed than crawling ... but who am i to say, im a noob in the r/c world and modding clods and to boot my first post here.

i guess its a balance of aesthetics and performace for me, i need the truck to look like one.

Well I decided I wanna extremize a bit this rig so the JPS will go on a 2.2 clod I have in mind. It's heavy and it's built for speed. I modde d it to crawl, but it still wasn't enough crawler ;)

I cut the wheels following these instructions: Narrow your clod rims AND get less Backspacing!
easy and functional

There are some homemade wideners even on them.

I used my drill/mill.
I bought a nylon bar with the right thichness, cut 4 square block from it.
I drilled a hole in center, there's no needings to drill the exact center, but the hole MUST be exactly alligned.
Then I clamped a cutter blade in the vice under the drill/mill in the right position and mounted the blocks on the drill. I lower the drill using it similar to a lathe to turn the square into a circle.
Drilled the 5 holes using the clod hub as template.
Finally milled the center to let the locknut get the shaft.

That's the result:

;)

when i noticed your wheels yesterday, i was sort of playing with the same idea but a slight deviation from your technic. then reading and seeing closeup shots of your wheels has sold me to the idea that your way is best. i just havent found a place where i can get mc nylon or those nylon bars you used ... so im going the aluminum route.

thank you very much for sharing this info!

I tested the Kittie on the rocks.......
I have only one word:

WOW!!!!!!

Sorry guys I have no pictures cause I drove only through a couple of packs, cause the front motor didn't work as usual.
I don't know exactly what happened. It has no torque. I think it is simply old and died. If someone has something to suggest about it I'll appreciate it ;)

Anyway the "Bumperframe" is impressive.
It was able to handle "on sight" most of the obstacles I pushed Hellcat into and most of them was too much for the previous release.
CG is very lower and the front moved weight helped a TON.
The overall agility of the truck is very improved.

The weak point of the Kittie is now placed in the tires (Achille's heel in the tires is funny to me ). As someone suggested she needs something better.
I'm still not satisfied from the steering even.
I' thinking about using 2 servos on each axles.
