Custom Clod Stub Axles?
 

So I was thinking about wheel adapters for my clod, and a couple of thoughts occurred to me...

Why doesn't somebody make stub axles that are drilled for a drive pin, so you could use hex adapters like the ones on the T-maxx and touring cars?

-OR-

Why not make 14mm hex adapters that slide right onto the splined shaft?

I'm just thinking that less parts is better.

Sorry if this has been covered, but I searched and found very little.

I tried this but ran into a rubbing effect. Trying something else ...

I am assuming that you have all these cars and trucks in which you could get some dimensions from and digital or dial calipers. If you can document the dimensions I may be able to make them for you.:mrgreen:

Actually I don't really know the sizes, and am guessing that custom machining would be prohibitively expensive. I was just wondering if anybody had explored the possibility of some existing hardware that would fit with the right bearings.

It is possible that a widener would still be required, so it may all be a moot point. It was just a thought.

Do the MIP CVD's from Thundertech come with 14mm hex already?

The problem I see with making 14mm adaptors to slip right over the splined CLod wheel axle is this.If the 14mm adaptor is machined out of aluminum it'll strip(the aluminum 14mm adaptor)cause the Clod wheel axle is made out of some kind of steel?.Now,if the 14mm adaptor was machined out of steel,that will probably solve the potential stripping of aluminum adaptors.Just my .02.

roydelburg - That's basically what I was thinking, a pin drive that you could use a 1/8 scale hex on. Your design and machine work is awesome, by the way.

BaddClod - Steel, or bronze, like the stok Clod hexes. I haven't yet heard of them being a weak link.

not trying to contradict anyone, but i have a set of 14 mm adapters that slide over the splines on my clod, and I havent had any problems with them in the 2 years that ive had them.

jd weld and duct tape will fix it
