Sorry for the weird post above. I was a little intoxicated when it was made.

This is going to be my new 1/6 scale rig. Nothing fancy, just a big, tough, 4WD truck. I got tired of the limitations of my XC and figured I should make something that can go just about anywhere. The frame is 1/2" steel square tubing that has been mitered and mig welded into shape. It is fully boxed so it is heavy but very strong. I can stand on it and i'm a hefty 230 lbs. It will run locked clod axles and a basic 4 link w/ coilovers. I'm going to try and narrow the clod wheels and tires to look scale. We will see how that goes... I am busy with work so this will be a slow build but keep an eye out for updates.

Thanks,
-Aaron-

Sorry for the delay,

Between work, exercise, and sleep I havn't had much time to accomplish a significant amount of progress on this build. I have, However, managed to get a little done. I almost have a roller now. I'm just waitng for wheels/tires and electronics. If anyone has some scale wheel/tire suggestions, please let me know. The cut up clod tires just won't work for me. I have a set of 1/6 Nylint units coming this way though.

Specs:

Rc4wd steering kits front and rear

Rc4wd Monster upper link mounts

Custom 3/8" solid aluminum links w/ Traxxas rod ends

Aluminum threaded body shocks

More to come...Eventually

have you done any research on anti-squat? maybe it's just me but your link angles are gonna give you some weird anti-squat numbers. but i could be wrong too.

rethink the link geometry... what youve got is, no offense, horrible.

I'm still tinkering with my suspension. I'm not too pleased with it right now. I will go do some reading on Anti-Squat and 4-link suspensions. What are the changes you all suggest?
Thanks for your input,
-Aaron-

for starters move the bottom links to a position above the axles. also i'd say move the top links (on the chassis end) up

What you have now is more of a glorified radius arm setup. Basically the axle will move in an arc rather than a linear motion. I think since it is a scale rig rather than a crawler, the links under the axle are no big deal. I would move the uppers to an almost equal spacing on the frame side in relation to the axle side.

go to pirate4x4.com and go to their bulletin board. search there for info on 4 link geometry. here are a few links i have saved.

this is not everything there is to know, but it is a start. it helped me learn just enough to be dangerous!

I have checked out some posts here around the forums and on Pirate. It definately paid off. I repositioned my upper links on the chassis. I put the links in the direct center of the 45 degree frame riser. This made them close to parallel with the lowers and also allowed for the correct amount vertical seperation at the chassis (about 1" less than the axle seperation.) I had to shorten the upper links to do so, but I don't think it will hurt anything seeing as it is a clod based rig and there are no pinion angles or driveshafts to bind. My suspension is much more reactive and there is almost no side to side axle motion during compression and droop. Thanks for all your help guys! I will have more for all of you in a few days.
