Default CR-01 porn

Howdy, I am stoked with what I got done on my CRO1 today and thought I would share a few pics. I will add more pics as I progress further with the build and as I get a little farther along I will show some more detail of what I did and how I did it. As of right now I have a little more welding to do, a little more brazing to do, and a whole lot more grinding, cleaning, painting and overall "scaleification" before it is going to be done. It will have a custom box, and interior when I get done with the metal fabrication, and a couple other scale trinkits. Yes it is top heavy and the modifications I have made does comprimise the function of the rig, but to tell you the truth, this is my first RC vehicle and the reason I got it was because I am a landcruiser nut. I have a 1:1 fj40 which is very similar to the RC I am building and for me the best part about this CRO1 is the oppertunity to model a scale rugged overweight pig of an FJ40 out of it. I hope you dig it, I have been having a blast building it thus far and cant wait to get to the beautification process

In reply to some of the questions:

1) I did not alter the wheel base of the stock CRO1

2) Yes my cage does considerably raise the center of gravity for the vehicle, and yes I have run through two battery packs through it. I am actually quite pleased with the function of the rig, it works better than I was worried that it would. It can climb and side hill over steeper and more angulated obsticles than my 1:1 FJ40 could with similar 1:1 obsticles. That being said, I have run into a drive line twisting issue which required me to step up to stronger drive lines. In addition I have had quite a bit of trial and error in optimizing the suspension to accomidate the extra weight and yet not be too stiff. I beleive I have the suspension set up correctly now although I have only run approx 1/2 of a pack in testing the new suspension set up. Also, I just ordered some aluminum rims which I will add weight to in order to lower the COG and make this rig perform even better.

3) One of the cool things about the tube work that I made is that it is completely removeable, yet very rigid. It is built for abuse and can take it.

Oh and for all you haters out there ready to bash a new design, lets see you step up and build something unique out of the CRO1 platform. Simpily putting a different coat of paint on your rig than the next guy doesn't qualify as scale or standoutish (oh thats not a word) in my book.

Reguardless, thanks for all comments, good and bad. I can use them all as well as any suggestions

Default Oh hells yeah

Its not done yet, but it is coming together nicely. I am pleased with what I have accomplished. I need to get some action pics because it works well. I lowered the ride height which caused my articulation to suffer a bit, but it still has more articulation than 95% of real rigs on the trail and it is definetly geared more toward the scaler side. I made some new shock mounts on saturday, worked on my interior, put the winch on, and put on the new heavier wheels, and metal drive shafts. I am running a tamiya medium and stiff spring at each corner to counteract the increased weight. I still have to add the spare tire to the mount on the rear of the cage and I am probably also going to make it a bikini top. Enjoy

I for one like it and the owner has put his blood, sweat and tears into I am sure...The body style kinda reminds me of a Suzuki Samauri. Also, it looks pretty cool with the just the roll cage painted black too...any shots you out running it yet? Looking forward to the updates.

Default more pics

here are some more pics of my rig. The first few with the soda can are to give an idea of the amount of articulation the rig has. With a soda can and the stock plastic wheel the articulation is just about at maximum stuff with the rear wheel still maintaining traction on the ground. the second shot with both soda cans shows the breakover angle of the rig. I could probably add another two dvd containers under the soda cans without it flipping over so the top heavy concern with this rig is not an issue in my book. The last few pics are in my backyard rock pile goofing off. The rig scaled the rocks quite well, I was having so much fun I only stopped a couple times to take a pic. The pics were driven into and out of without having to manipulate the vehicle.

To answer a couple of questions:

Yes they are the Vanquish revolver wheels. I have three wheel weights per wheel and they are a awesome product, well worth the money. Additionally I personally spoke with the owner at vanquish wheels asking him a question and he was very helpful and professional, a good company to throw business at.

The drive shafts are from RC4WD

Thanks for viewing

You can tell you are a 1:1 FJ40 owner LOL!!
your scale rig probably represents about 80% of 1:1 rigs as aposed to about 20% "Poser's" that have 35's and never go off road.
I have a 1:1 and love it (Looks a little like your CR-01 LOL!) I love your rig and don't forget this is how crawling started!!

Would love to see half doors, you have the interior detail to pull it off?
