Default spring question

Hi,

The stock springs on the cr-01 are soft set and medium set.
It seems that the softer it is, the lower the ground clearance it gets.
(The spring already got compressed to 80% when the truck sits on a flat surface. Just like a real truck.....)

My question is, does that mean I can't have a soft spring with high ground clearance? (with the suspension fully extended when the truck sits.)

you could mess with the weight of the oil in your shocks, I think a higher weight oil would help but it will slow the travel of your suspension.

just an idea

I just received a set of stabilizers and new springs, haven't had a chance to try the old trial and error, anybody else come up with a good combo of stabilizers/springs

there really is no way of adjusting ride hieght with the springs as they are fixxed.playing with the oil wont change ride height.

What's the "barrel springs" all about, is that like a dual rate spring?

I wonder if stretching the OEM spring longer will do the trick.......not sure if there is any negative effect though.....

Anyone tried it?

I think you would want the same spring but designed for a longer shock. That would be the only way to get more ride height without changing the spring rate.

Taller spring or harder spring is what you'd need to regain that height. I dont think stretching the spring would help because eventually it would compress back to its original state.

Do you guys have the same "problem"? (if you consider this a "problem")

Mine is pretty much stock and is not any heavier than most of you guys I think.

My front end sits lower and I have a ton of torque twist. I thought I posted a thread on here about the availability of after market springs. But I can not find it:-(. So is there any companies stepping up to make heaver springs???

I found this:

I also found this saying that the ground clearance can be adjusted with the barrel springs...... how?

From what I've heard the barrel springs give a progressive rate effect, the more you compress them the harder they get to compress. They could effect your ride height as they would not compress as far with the weight they have to support.

Also I just realized there are two different sets of barrel springs available on Tamiya website, one set is shorter than the other so that would effect your ride height as well.

Hi,

I finally put the theory aside and decided to give it a shot to stretch the springs. It seems working!

I stretched the springs a little by little, (just try not to over done) until I got the desired ride height with the rig sitting on them.

Now, I got the cantilevers 95% extended when the rig sits on flat ground.
The rating of the springs seems a little bit harder. But that shouldn't make a big difference.

Will see if there is any long term side effect.
