free play in drive line
 

So I just installed the tamiya diff lock set up along with tamiya steel drive lines. What I don't remember is the small amount of free play that I can feel starting with the tires. If I grab the tire and move it back and forth I see the drive shaft move so I think the free play is just small amounts through out each point that is adding up to what I'm feeling. Is this normal? Hope this is making sense.

Absolutely. After all it's a Tamiya. That being said it is a good idea to make sure you have the bevel gear mesh set up correctly and shimmed if necessary.

tamiya's drive shafts have always sucked for me i broke the 1 in my cc-01 with just a 27 turn axial motor

I have this same problem with both my CR-01 and my AX10. There are eight or nine points where a small amount of slack can occur. The more time that goes along, the more play will develope. I would make sure your driveshaft screws are tightened down. My AX10 has about 150 or so runs on it since I bought it. Just from normal friction and wear and tear, there is enough slack that if you hold the rear wheels, you can turn the front wheel about twenty degrees. Thats two years of driving though...
