CR-01 Land Cruiser year?
 

Hey guys, just wondering what year of Land Cruiser is the body that Tamiya has for the CR-01? I did a quick search online but couldn't find it, thanks.

Its a 40 series landcruiser...

Thanks but I'm looking for the year. I know it's a 40 but they were in production from 1960-1984. I'm guessing it's from the early 70s but I'd like an exact year if anyone knows, thanks.

I don't know that the exact year of the Tamiya kit has ever been published or for that matter, It may not have been modeled after a specific year.

I think it's probably 1970-1974. 1975 & later had some body changes that are obvious. they went to vertical ambulance doors on the back, external windshield wiper motor with a cover over it, bigger straight 6, internal roll cage, the latter wouldn't apply to the tamiya kit but those were some major changes in 1975. 1969 had a chrome strip down the center of the hood which is missing on the tamiya. I have a 1972 FJ40 & the tamiya body looks exactly like mine with the swing tailgate doors & hatchback door on the roof. In researching replacement tubs for my 1:1, 1970 - 1972 tubs are all a direct fit for my '72.

definitely a 73 or 74 FJ40 - I would say - 1974!!!!
I have owned 6 - 1:1 FJ40 rigs is a variety of forms of dysfunction and I own a 74 right now. The earlier years of FJ40 had round front blinker lights and no locking fuel door. In 73 they changed to a locking fuel door and retained the rectangular front blinkers as is on the Tamiya body.

Other things to consider when looking at years in relation to the body:
(realize that FJ40s changed from 4 drum brakes to front disks and F engine to 2F engine as well as other interior details)
- rear taillights changed from round to rectangular
- tailgate and liftgate changed to ambulance doors
- front blinkers - round to rectangular to big rectangular
- hardtop changed from 1 window to 2 (1 is a kickout)
- emblems on rear changed from left to right - opposite the rear tire carrier
- door handles changed as did side view mirrors
- fender apron emblems changed
- hood and windshield tiedown changed

Ah... the locking gas cap door. Never thought of that too close. my '72 doesn't have a door & the fuel cap is visible. the Tamiya body apears to have a cap door, or at least it's not indented like mine, however, their is a gas cap sticker....

Looked at my Tamiya body last night & the gas cap area is slightly indented, not as much as the 1:1 but it definately doesn't look like a door. I'm stickin' with '70-'72.

I see what you mean regarding the gas cap -
I think you may be right.

I have one of the FJ40 bodies on an Axial AX10 - I call it my SCRAWLER. I also have a Honcho body and a Dingo body that fit the truck as I hate when my nice orange FJ40 gets scratched and dinged up from rollovers.

I have been looking to pic up a CR01 with an FJ40 body.

What are they going for $$$?
Are they good truck overall - reliable?

$300 for the kit is about as cheap as I've seen them. I love mine. The 2.2's are fun. drive shafts are the weak link right out of the box. I have Tamiya's Carbon steel shafts which have worked well. I've broken some other stuff but I've run it hard for going on 4 years, so I would say it's reliable, other than the drive shafts. It's a bit top heavy which has attracted critisism but to me, it just makes it different to drive. I've got a SCX10, I don't want another truck that drives just like a SCX10. A lot of people switch out the suspension. The cants are over complicated but I don't find them to be a problem. I like the way it moves over the rocks but the big white springs don't look real scale. The body, as you know, is pretty good for lexan. The wheelbase on the CR01 is just a tad long for that body. Not enough to create any problems, just doesn't look quite right.
