Question Free or super cheap mods?

Hey guys.. I've been out of the crawling scene for a while.. I've owned a couple Axials. I didn't really see a sticky for like.. cheap mods.. so I thought I'd ask.. wasn't really sure what to search for.

Basically, I got this kit direct from Tamiya for our blog. I'm going to review it box stock, and then I wanted to follow it up with some very simple/cheap mods.. I dont want to do anything that requires hacking it up.. but if theres like some cantilever mounting point adjustments or something, that's kind of what I'm looking for..

If you want to see the build so far it's here: http://www.rcsoup.com/2011/07/tamiya...iser-build-up/

Thanks

zip tie cants

Cantilever tweaks

Steering:

Almost free CR-01 BTA and some lightweight side plates

Drive shaft: Cr01 shafts are notorious for twisting. I have heard of people putting epoxy or JB Weld in the hollow sections to make them stronger. I have tamiya steel shafts but you said cheap or free so there you go.

Wheel weights are cheap too.

You can also shorten the CR01 wheel base to match the FJ body better. I've heard it will help with turn radius too.

It pretty narrows down the possibilities
but flipping the beadlock rings on my wheels proved to work well for me...

I found out that it gave a better shape/profile to the tyre, and that the ring is better protected by the tyre wall (Not sure this is the good word/expression) hence no more rings rubbing on the rocks !

BTW, that's a nice site & sweet build thread. Makes me miss building mine. Tamiya is by far the most enjoyable kit to build.

I'll have to add RC soup to my list of blogs to follow, good reviews.

Where did you get those spacers and deck with the battery strap?

I found a pretty simple and free mod for CR01s needing additional clearance with 4WS rear steer: Rear axle clocking for max 4WS tie rod clearance
