The Green Meanie CR-01 My first proper RC car other than the old Jet Hopper if anybody remembers them and an RTR 1/14th scale Avante 2001 Built Basically stock out of the Box My Chassis Base before any Upgrades http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/56.jpg And with the Body Installed http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/65.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/67.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/69.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/71.jpg |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Today I decided to go on the hunt for a few upgrades. I tried about 4 Hobby shops and was met with a Bewildered stare as to why anybody would bother to upgrade a CR-01 Finally my persistence paid off as not only did I find a store with some parts but the guy was also looking to get rid of them because......... "Nobody really bothers to Upgrade a CR-01" He didn't have everything I wanted, and I didn't want everything he had but what I did grab he gave me at half price. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/72.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/78.jpg Then took it out for a spin at the local park. Oh Yeah also did a few changes to my Decals after some inspiration of looking at all 15 pages of the CR-01 Picture Thread. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/79.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...r/P7110023.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/80.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/86.jpg Thanks to the Local Council dredging one of the ponds and putting in anti erosion rock barriers I now have my very own Rock Crawler course. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/81.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/82.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/83.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/84.jpg I have some Scale Body accessories on their way from Asiatees so more pics to come once they arrive |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 OK. Whats up next for the Green Meanie project. I've got some parts on the way from Asiatees that are Scale accessories. This rig is more of a Trail Runner than a Crawler for me, so whilst it wont be absolute accurate Scale I still want to add a few touches of realism to it. So whilst I'm waiting for the parts form Asiatees I decided to scratch build my own CB Antenna for it. Built using a spare Antenna Pipe that I wrapped in Insulation tape for colour and mounted using a Cable Clip I had that pretty much perfectly matched the diameter of the Bull bar. All I had to do was drill the small nail hole in the cable clip out to 3mm to fit the Antenna Pipe. Behold. The Parts. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/89.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/90.jpg The Colour. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/91.jpg The Mounting. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/92.jpg The Effect. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/93.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/94.jpg It's not really AS tall as it looks in the angle of the pics. In terms of "Scale" it would be approx a 1.5mtr antenna which is about 5ft for you guys on the Imperial Scale. |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Warms my heart to see a new CR01 build. Fun little rigs. Glad you are enjoying it! |

As I mentioned there I couldn't believe the amount of shops/people who told me "Nah nobody upgrades a CR-01" or "Just get an Axial" |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Nobody does really, just us die hards. :) |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Looks great. Every time I see someone build one of these I get jealous. I really need to order one and get one built to play with. |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Just did the "Zip tie" mod on my cantilevers. Took out a good deal of body wobble but not ALL of it as there is still a little bit of play where the Canti setup pivots on that bit of the upper spring mount. But its very minimal play. Hoping the rain holds off tomorrow so I can get in some trail runs to test it out |

Wow thanks man. Its quite basic in paint compared to some of the others I've seen in here. The colour choice came from a long time love of that colour. There's an old Aussie car from the late 70's and 80's called the Torana SLR 5000 that were often in this colour. Even though I was not even 10 years old at the time I loved it so there was no other colour this rig was gonna be once I knew I had my own choice. It also greatly impressed the shop guy I bought it off when I went back in and showed him my pics as he's Irish. |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Ok so the Weather held off enough for me to get out and Boy did I get out. Took 3 NiMh stick Packs with me. 1 x 5000mah 2 x 2000mah The 5000mah ran for nearly 2 hours of mixed driving at slow and full speed with a bit of crawling here and there over some rougher terrain and a few downed tree branches. The 2000mah gets me about 1 hour of casual trail driving or about 25 minutes of flat out rampaging around in the dirt I like the results of the Ziptie Mod, Far less Body Wobble and it tracks nicely now. Here's a few pics. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/95.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/96.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/97.jpg Yeah the driver needed to pull over for a Wee Stop. The bush in background is quite green from weeks of rain over last month or so. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/98.jpg Conquering Ant Hills http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...Crawler/99.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/100.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/101.jpg All in all a great afternoon, I was out walking for around 3 hours then spent the last 2000mah battery just racing about in a large dirt area til I killed it off I'm off now to a mates to drink about 3 gallons of his homebrew and undo the days exercises....... Cheers. "thumbsup" |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Had a few of my Asiatees Accessories arrive and got them mounted up. Waiting on 1 more parcel to arrive with a few more bits and pieces. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/102.jpg And yep I hand tied those Truckie's hitches on there myself using tweezers, No Bungee cords for this Old Schooler :D http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/103.jpg |

Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Here's a few more of the Green Meanie from a little run I did today. The dry Aussie Bush trails is why I end up with so many sticks and twigs in my Drivetrain. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/104.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/105.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/107.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/108.jpg |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Got out for a little morning stroll but didn't go to far as my Knee started hurting and didn't get too many pics either http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/109.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/110.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/111.jpg Can you spot a difference to my Rig in this pic from the last 3........? http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/112.jpg |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 I had a rollover and broke the imitation CB antenna off the front of Bullbar. I've made a new one using the plastic tube that holds the ink from inside of a Pen. Fits perfectly into the hole in the cable clip too |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Took the Green Meanie out for a spin today at a local BMX/Mountain Bike track. She's a bit tippy with all the stuff on the roof now I have the rest of my Asiatees accessories so I think Weighted wheels are in my near future. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/113.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/114.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/115.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/117.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/121.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/123.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/126.jpg |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Finally decided to trace in the Shut Lines on the panels, Didn't think I'd like it at first but now it's done I think it does set them off nicely http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/134.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/135.jpg |
Re: The Green Meanie CR-01 Also Recently did the 4 Wheel Steering Conversion. ABSOLUTE BEST MOD I HAVE DONE SO FAR!!!! Standard setup I had http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/129.jpg Dismantled http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/130.jpg And setup with Servo Horn inverted cause I don't have a signal reverser for the 2nd servo http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/131.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/136.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/138.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/140.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...rawler/141.jpg |
