My New Crawler (lots-o-pix) Well this is my first attempt at building a crawler, since I got my TLT I've been coming here checking out all the info & building up my rig :-P It's now on it's 3rd stage. first stage was like thefordmccord's  http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0110.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0111.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0112.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0113.jpg second stage was kinda like a weight placement & refinement of the truck w/ stock chassis plates. This is really good for those that don't have the $$ or fab skills to make thier own. Didn't really have anything to compare it to, but I think it is a fairly good set-up & easy to make. Just drill 4 holes for the tranny & cut about 1" off the bottom of the chassis, that's it! :) http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0158.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0157.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0156.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0155.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../.HPIM0132.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../.HPIM0129.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../.HPIM0133.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../.HPIM0153.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0150.jpg For the Third stage I decided to make my own chassis  I used what I found at work, 1/8" alum. diamond plate & 1/16" stainless steel. The side plates are alum. & the servo & tranny mounts are SS. It's a lay down tranny design. I forget which links I used but I know some were Revo push rods. 3 sets, 1 for the drag links & 2 for the links. it's kinda set up like a 60/40 , longer in the rear. Also tried brushless motor instead of the lathe & super rooster thanks to microgoat. It is a AXI outrunner motor, I had a Mamba BL for my 18T that I wasn't using so I used the esc. the BL & the mamba 25 are more than half the weight of the lathe & SR. really helps the COG. Well on to the pix...... http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0166.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0165.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0169.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0172.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0173.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0174.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0175.jpg just to compare motor size http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0/HPIM0159.jpg Still needs a skid plate, gonna try some cutting board or something similar. I know most of you will know what parts I am using so I'll save myself some time, for those that don't just ask. Hope you guys like my first rock crawler All coments welcome  shaka brah :flipoff: |
Looks great. How are the axles handling the big tires? What are the specs? :) |
sweet pic Sweet ride. I like the pic of you running over the imports. My tlt is still in parts and I have been to lazy to put it together. |

Thanks :) That pic is from one of the drift comps  Get your rig together or the crawling police are gonna come for you  Anyways, need to get together so we can all go crawling :-P I know a few others w/ TLT's |
 dam you make it look so easy!!!! right on dude hope can get toghter and go crawling someday?????? |
damm DISTURBIN your chassis is sweet cant wait to see it in action when we go crawling, good work on your chassis :) |
Whoah, I thought those car crushing pics were real at first! What did you use in the background for the lights and trees? Something from a model railroad set? That's sweet! Truck looks great BTW. |
i think those are real full size lights and trees in a parking lot  |

 thats real trees, real light poles, and a real parking lot  The yellow things are integy track dots for our drift coarse I just laid on the ground to get that "looking up at it'" view ;-) Glad you like those, I do too  |
i like the diamond plate. its purdy :D how is the motor setup doing? still running strong? did you ever get an update on the controller? |
The motor set-up is nice. I didn't get to do the ecs yet....I had to use another comp cause mine is an i-mac. It didn't recognize when the link was plugged in? Will try again on my bro's girrlfriends laptop later. right now it's set on no cutt off V.,low advance, max starting power, forward to reverse, & 100% rev power. seems fine now that I got the servos running off a 6v rx pack. Two 645mg's are too much for the mamba-25 but now w/ the rx pack it's just fine. you do need to be extra steady w/ the throttle. Gonna try it now  I'll post some new pix in about an hour  |
wow you have your own rock crawling place damm can i come over to do some carwling, lol :) |
Duuuude, that it awesome! I wish i had more than $350 cause i want that car! |

Damn, and to think i already spent it! |
That has to be nice having all that lava rock to crawl on. When my grandparents lived in Honolulu I would take my clod with me on trips and climb on Diamond Head. Its the best rc crawling I've ever done anywhere. Nice truck man. I never thought about using an outrunner in a truck. I should have-I use one in a plane. BTW how did you mount the outrunner in the pede case? What kind of KV rating does it have? |
right around 1000 kv is about perfect for a crawler. you can always adjust for final speed with a cell or two though. |
The motoe mounts w/ a mounting plate that AXI sells for this motor, it doesn't line up perfectly. the side w/ the slot you adjust the motor with had to be notched. kv=975 slow but lots of torque. Just stripped my idler gear yesterday. |
