My first TLT : Die Volkskriecher **56K beware**

I just finished my first TLT. THe build was uneventful and she climbs very well. I'm still making small changes buy I'm pretty sure this will be the final setup. The articulation is fairly mild compared to many I see on this board but it works well for me. She is named "Die Volkskriecher" which translates as "People's Crawler."

Specs:
  • TLT axles locked with JB weld
  • stock TLT chassis
  • stock TLT transmission with Traxxas friction pegs instead of balls
  • Integy 55T lathe motor
  • 18:98 gearing
  • HPI MT2 dogbones and drove cups
  • Traxxas Maxx titanium links, balls, and ends
  • Hobbico CS-70MG servos
  • 4 wheel steering
  • Futaba seven channel radio system
  • Integy piggy-back maxx shocks
  • custom 2400mAh NiCd pack
  • HPI MT 5-spoke wheels
  • 2.2 Moabs
  • Associated body mounts
  • HPI Baja body
  • Paint - Alclad Lacquer, Prismatic Maple
That's all I can think of right now but I'm sure I left something out.

Surprised to see that bug body, it actually looks pretty good.

Trike Kid 08-26-2005 06:45 PM

Well, it sure am perty! I like it, looks like an inexpensive way to a TLT crawler, good work.

Harris 08-26-2005 06:46 PM

nice dude. i have a few suggestions for you tho. sleeve your steering link in some 3/16 brake line or atleast some aluminum tubing. then move it above the knuckles. lower the body alot and lower the cg a little bit. ditch the stock tranny, shave the axle housings, make a center skid, and at the very least, get that body dirty!

how do you get your batt. out of there?

Madkoifish 08-26-2005 06:58 PM

Cool I was to chicken to do my whole body in that stuff!
Suggestion rotate those link carriers so the hanging out bit is on top. And maybe placing the uppers on the inner side of that bracket so it isnt binding on the link end.
I was wondering when someone would use that body too. Saw it at a small shop in wseattle, but passed it up cause of the scoop. Definely has a better hood shape than mine!

What was said about the steering up there, and move your lower links lower on the chassis. if your links are sliding along some rocks they'll snag real quick like on the bottom of the chassis.

Either lifts out through the top or charges in the truck.

JohnRobHolmes 08-27-2005 12:40 AM

slick ride! its sooo purdy...

the links are Ti, so i dont think he needs to sleeve them. the body is scuffed too, those are just the shots back when the weather was nice. i hope capen is dry on sunday, i just might have a crawler running for once.

Madkoifish 08-27-2005 01:07 AM

Hey PWT is that a HP phone rep?? and what is he gonna do with the knife??

The sleeving i think is refering to the steering links.

superpeltor 08-27-2005 09:27 AM

Nicely done with stock tranny. MT2 dogbones fit good...

Urbanace 08-27-2005 10:16 AM

Thanks. I like to run something a little different and it fits into my collection.

I plan to sleeve them today. Lowering the body wouldn't lower the CG any noticable amount. I plan to run the stock tranny until I have problems with it. If it isn't broke, why fix it? What do you mean by shave the axle housings? A center skid is in the works. Believe me, the body has been dirty. It's amazing what a wet paper towel and some Future floor wax does to make those scratches disapear.

I generally just leave it in there. I get at least 30 minutes of run and the charge time lets the motor, esc, and servos cool down.

The body is actually a pretty good fit and only required very minimal trimming. I left he carriers with the protrusion toward the bottom to help protect the axles. I plan to rotate them and add a light Al skid plate some tim ein the future. There really isn't any binding anywhere in the movement.

I tried lowering the links and had dome weird geometry problems. I plan to trim the bottom of the chassis and install an Al center skid.

Urbanace 08-28-2005 11:34 AM

Alright all you unbelievers, I took a closeup of some of the scratches when we went out to Capen park today. There's even a shot of it in the mud for RIVERdude69. :flipoff: I stuck a couple shots at slightly different angles so you can see the color change of this paint. The change is even more dramatic than the pics make it look; maybe a video would work better...
