Comp Rebuild

I decided to rebuild my old TLT comp rig. I started with a set of loaded TLT axles, a DaBull Chassis, R2D and some other junk.

Now, it will be running a FF-4 chassis, Axial tranny and VP dig unit:

My boy approves of the work so far!

Sweet Jeremy your working quick! I've actually had one of those chassis for a while now, they are pretty dang slick. I just can't decide what to use it on, I'm thinkin a super.

JeremyH 05-18-2010 06:38 AM

Thanks! Yeah, quick work. The old links from this truck worked well, I just needed to swap the revo rod ends for jato longs on the rear links and everything lined up perfectly. I will have this with me at the next comp...

dieselfuel 05-18-2010 11:51 AM

nice! one day when i go back to competing its gonna be with a shafty, might be a TLT but without a doubt a shafty.

how do you think they'll hold up to those tires? my main concern would be the ring and pinion.

JeremyH 05-18-2010 12:04 PM

Yeah, one reason that I stopped using this rig was the R&P. I killed everyone that I put in this thing....RCP, RC4WD and stockers. The stockers would last the longest when the pinion was properly shimmed. The wheels in that picture are pretty light....there is no weight in them. I am hoping that the forward bias of the chassis will give the weight distribution that I like....but we'll see how it turns out. If it needs more weight up front, then I'll probably mount it to the knuckles. I am running Egressor knuckles and I think he makes a static weight that mounts to the knuckle for the TLTs.

ugh, eggressor knuckles, i need a set of those. he does ive seen them somewhere here on rcc. keeping the weight down will definitely help, but so will going easy on the trigger. ive broken more TLT parts because of heavy throttle. of course until my SCX10 ive never had a crawler with a slipper clutch in it either. maybe something worth trying on my next TLT build.

Hummm....never heard that term before. ;-):ror:

Yeah, I'll probably just drive it a little easier....hopefully.

dieselfuel 05-18-2010 03:06 PM

haha, either way im excited to see where this goes.

its good to see some action in the TLT section again

92LILREDYJ 05-21-2010 12:28 PM

Jeremy, Any thoughts about moving the axle upper link mounts back some to make the links longer? I found the short links really hindered mine. And with it being 60/40 its going to be real short in the front.

I just did a axial axle FF4 and made the uppers and lowers the same length in the rear, and as long as I could in the front... its a lot smoother then the tlt.

JeremyH 05-21-2010 12:37 PM

I'll see how it works out. I'll have the battery right in front of the upper link mount, so I am not sure how much room I have...

92LILREDYJ 05-21-2010 12:54 PM

Maybe use the bolts holding the front plate on and cut some of the plate off in front of it.

JeremyH 05-21-2010 01:15 PM

Yeah, I see what you mean....that could work out nicely! Just lay down the rod ends at the axle...

92LILREDYJ 05-21-2010 01:30 PM

"thumbsup"

I am about to rebuild my TLT homemade tuber. . . Been doing some thinking and compairing to the axial I just built. The TLT will keep, with the shims behind the pinion I have beat the shit out of mine. Learned the hard way.

JeremyH 05-21-2010 02:10 PM

Yeah....I think the stock ring gear will last the longest with a shimmed pinion. BTW, I just finished building the tranny/dig....a few other parts arrived as well! :D

JeremyH 05-22-2010 09:09 AM

I got a bit of work done yesterday:

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...d/P1030588.jpg
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...d/P1030589.jpg

It just needs wiring and paint.

dieselfuel 05-22-2010 11:36 AM

Thanks guys! I should have some action shots after our comp this coming weekend.

dieselfuel 05-26-2010 08:06 AM

Now all it needs is big tamiya stickers on the sides. I started working on a set of loaded tlts last night, still gotta pick up some shims though. Not sure I'm gonna do a 2.2 rig with them but they're coming back from the dead either way. Probably gonna do an 11" 1.9 "no class" rig like bowtie's..

JeremyH 05-26-2010 08:22 AM

Sounds awesome! I dont know about the Tamiya stickers....I dont know where to get them from.

PhantomRS10 05-26-2010 06:24 PM
