Default Got started on the Desert jeep*PICS*

Well I got started on the suspension setup for the new desert jeep. I got the front and rear axles mounted and just got the tranny in the mail. I bought this tranny not knowing exactly what it was, i got it for $12 so i figured it couldn't be that bad. Turns out it is in great shape BUT of course, with any Nitro tranny it has a one way bearing in it and only spins in one direction. So I have takin it aprat looking how to lock that one way bearing so I can reverse the tranny and also I found out that it must be a 2 speed tranny although I am not sure how it shifts cause the shift makes it goes into one gear or Nuetral. So I gotta figure that out, but it might help if I knew what type of transmission it is.. Does anyone recognize the tranny in the pics below?

But anyway, the size of the tranny works great. It should fit perfectly. Not I gotta find another gear reeduction for under the hood to hold the motor.

These things are SO weird, one post all the pics will work and the next they don't..

They are hosted on Imageshack now. I might just attach them.

Edit: I see you're not able to attach photo's to these threads.
I can see the photos i don't know why everyone else cannot... It's frustrating cause this is the only forum that won't show the pics.

Well it is coming along very nicely. I actually have got the drivetrain drivable but don't have more recent pics of that. The transmission was a bit of a challenge to get the one way bearing locked so it wasn't one direction only(reverse)LOL! I put a screw in a specific place and locked it so now the tranny works good. I still need a Emaxx spur gear and a 9t pinion so i can gear it down more. It pulls well until it comes to climbing something. I am still working on placement of most everything but I have the receiver mounted under the dash with the Novak ESC.
The pics don't show it but I built my own gear reduction with the TLT shaft and spur gear mount and then used a few good aluminum pieces to mount the motor.
I had to use a dog bone cup on the drive out puts from the home engineered gear reduction under the hood to the (x-factor?) tranny input shaft. The only problem is the TLT dogbone cup is a little too large for the shaft so it is giving me a little headache with vibration due to it being offcentered but I am working on that. I plan on putting different wheels and tires on it to make it look a little better. I also have to find a Rooster ESC, cause the Novak I have is forward only. I had to mount the shocks through the body to lower the suspension down so it wouldn't be so high. It should look nice with taller tires. More proportionate than my other Jeep which is kinda on the tall side. Anyway, enough with all that here's the pics.

There are Maxx driveshafts from the axles to the transfer case now. Just don't have a pic of it yet.

Here in this pic you can see how I took my dremel with the round sanding bit and cut a perfect oval for the shocks to slide through and mount perfectly. Turned out awesomely.

In this pic, you can see the original way I had the shocks in the front mounted under the hood. This proved to get in the way when i started to install the motor under the hood so not they are mounted totally different and cleaners than this cross memeber I made.

Good articulation so far. Driving it has shown some torque roll but I figure when i upgrade the shock springs it should eliminate the torque roll. The stock springs are just a wee bit too soft for that large body.

I like how you used the existing frame rails. Looks scale!

But I'm curious how they will stand up to abuse. I have no clue on how thick they are, but are you worried about the link mounts and stuff being ripped off?

A roll cage would definetly set it off.

Ya know, originally I thought it would be too weak. But I drilled and screwed and used nuts on the opposite sides and the chassis is mounted in about 15 different places. It is VERY strong. No flex and nothing twists so far on my other Jeep that is the same setup. I think it should be fine.

I don't know if you can see in the pic but there are many mounting holes in the frame that connect it to the body
