Default chassis design

i just got my first crawler and its a tlt and it works alright, but its not satisfying me. its got a 12in wb, 3gc, no springs, and a bolted together chassis. i want to make a crawler that can take anything you throw at it and i want to start off with making a new chassis. Im prolly gonna get some sheet of thick aluminum and cut out some plates to make one, but i have no clue how long it should be or how wide, or where to drill holes for the shocks or the links. Can i just come up with any design and it will work well, or does it need a lot of planning? can someone help please.

if you want a crawler that "can take anything you throw at it" you might wanna look into a super. the whole point of 2.2 is it is a drivers class, less capable trucks put more demand on the skill of the driver.

As for making your own chassis... I would either do

A)Buy a prefabbed, build it, drive it, learn from it. or.....

B) Buy alot of material because it will take some good trial and error before you get one just right, and also learn to use the search button like it was your best friend.

fastest way to the rocks.... option A.

C) buy, or have a tube chassis made for you from someone on this site.

If you have the stock tlt chassis plates, thats a good place to start. I've built a few and I've seen some pretty capable one made from it.

Yes I agree with Defender. The first Crawler I built was with the TLT chassis. It is very capable even with the stock tranny (locked of course). I'd find a chassis to build on and then use it for a while. If you're good enough to build something from scratch and do it right the first time then props but otherwise it will take a lot of planning, calculating nad trial and error so be patient.

thanks, right now my chassis is right in the middle. I see some rigs with the chassis mounted closer to the front or the rear, why? I did a search already and couldnt get a straight foward answer. is a txt a super?

SEARCH, YOU HAVE NOT DONE ENOUGH OF THAT YET, the answers are there, treat it like a home work assignment or studying for a test you cannot afford to fail, though it seems you have not done much of either
