A Jugg2 will have '2001' cast into the top of the gear case on the diff, and uses two balls mounted directly to the case. The OG Jugg has an aluminum post for the links like a Clod.

Tamiya offers a kit to update your Jugg to Jugg2 specs.

microgoat thanks for the info. Apparently mine is the old style (not a Jugg2) so I would be interested in upgrading it. Can you help me out with a part number for the upgrade and where to order it? Thanks in advance!!

I beleive thats all you need to upgrade them.

And MG, are you sure its 2001, I thought just the txt uppers said 01, and the jugg2's were 2000.

thanks for the post with the pics. I do have a Jugg 1 . Now where can I get the beveled gears at or do I want to upgrade? If I upgrade will extra parts be easier to get? What's next? I want to see this project crawl!!!! Is this the weak link in the Jugg 1 powertrain?

Best bet is to get the whole new upgrade. Along with different bevel gears, the pinion shaft is longer and the new gears won't work in the old axle housings.
If I remember correctly the bevel gears were the problem with the first release. They were small and would wear out prematurely.
If you don't have a local hobby shop to get the parts through try contacting Tamiya directly.
