We bought a 'Zu Got hold of a Tamiya Izuzu Amigo body in a trade that was a little worse for wear. I figured since it was already beat, it would be a fine body to take out on the woods and trail worry free! I was debating some sort of solid axle rig, but in the end it was right at home on a CC01 chassis. I had one here I was messing with converting over to an HPI suspension, and after some wheelbase adjustments, it dropped right on. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psoebbjt9x.jpg It had a 3:1 reduction and Tamiya Xacto mini motor ready to go - best combo out there for a trail ready CC chassis. I also used some lead fishing wire to line the chassis rails to add some weight down low. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psleoh95xv.jpg Rear suspension is some modified Wraith brackets to angle the shocks for a bit more travel. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psstazi7on.jpg Front is the HPI converted IFS of course. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...pscyvckryf.jpg A look at the bottom. Junfac sliders and some others odds and ends http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psi6eu6er6.jpg The body was missing the rear section, so I added some cross bars and mesh to fill it in. A modified Dingo interior is also velcro'd in. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psljkmmpgl.jpg The PO of this body used a lighter apparently to melt and flare out the wheel wells. They were (are) a wavy mess on all for corners...I started sanding down to get them close, and eventually I'll fill a bit so they are somewhat straight. The orange paint has to go, so there's a lot of bodywork in the future for this truck. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psd4be04is.jpg Painted the details on the grill and removed the front bumper as it was cracked and ugly. Now has a much more appropriate off road front end! http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psnthyym2a.jpg Been working on this in between my CR01 1.9 build...more to come! |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Do you have pics of the dingo interior installed?? |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Ooooo. Nice. Are those the MST tires? They look great. Perfect size for these CC-01 trucks. How do they work? |
Re: We bought a 'Zu So Jealous. I own a 1:1 isuzu amigo, and I've been looking for one of the Mu bodies off and on for about 2 years. finding one in any condition is a good find, I like what you've done so far with tis one. |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Any more info about the HPi front end parts? |

Re: We bought a 'Zu Got a good 1/2 hour or so in on the 'Zu this morning. Tires did better than I thought they would, and they are not broken in at all yet. Front suspension worked like a champ...If I can cobble it together, I may convert my other one. Bodywork is waiting for spring... :) Yes, it got up the face of that rock. I have no idea how. Sorry for the blurry pics. http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psmhoyosws.jpg http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...psc5pwfjqg.jpg http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps3yuderac.jpg |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Good to see that Tamiya M-Special motor in there! I now have tracked down 3 more brand new units and I'm to 4 of these things total. My CC-01 is however, still sitting in a box unbuilt as I've been preoccupied with getting an MF-01X to work as a mild trail rig. After putting on some drift tires, I decided that the little M-Chassis is better suited as a drifter or rally car than a trail rig. Now I can work on the CC-01... |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Those motors and the Xtra speed 3:1 reduction boxes are the best combo I've ever dropped into a CC chassis. |
Re: We bought a 'Zu I love that body. The modifications you made to the back look fantastic. |
Re: We bought a 'Zu edit: nm read thread about tires |
Re: We bought a 'Zu I like the gear reduction and motor combo and not needing to cut into the battery tray. What are the dimensions on the motor? |
Re: We bought a 'Zu The can itself is about 25mm long. The entire motor is just under 45mm. |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Thank you. I also meant to ask if it was bolt on for the gru or did you have to trim at all. Thanks again, Joe |
Re: We bought a 'Zu http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8sdckt5c.jpg It's an Xtra speed 3:1 planetary GRU. Much better then RC4WD's....quieter, smoother, and seems stronger to boot. No problems assembling that I can remember. I think i had to trim off a bit of the battery box for the bearing seat on the motor, but it was very minimal. |

Thanks for sharing this mod! |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Nice fixes for a sweet Tamiya Isuzu, always wanted one of these when they first came out in the 1990s was pretty cool in orange. Buddy had one with Toyota double transfer case setup. The Tamiya M motor and Xtra Speed GRU really work in the limited chassis space too. I keep resisting the temptation to buy one of these Tamiya kits because I have too many projects. 8) |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Thanks Natedog, they are a ton of fun. I've had 10-12 of them over the years...have 5 currently in various forms and probably 2-3 more in parts laying around. Reason they are fun is they are a challenge to mod and improve. Take a new SCX10 or Ascender - either one is a fantastic performer out of the box, and most mods made only improve it incrementally. A CC01 on the other hand starts as a terrible trail vehicle, so there are some night and day mods you can make along the way. It's very satisfying when your hard work really pays off. Hope I'm explaining that correctly. |
Re: We bought a 'Zu I miss my old CC-01 'Jero. I had shortened scx-10 shocks, out-boarded rear mounts on home made axle mounts, locked diffs on both ends, a few front end mods and a GRU. it was the most fun little rig I ever owned. |
Re: We bought a 'Zu Now featuring an HPI front suspension and Ascender rear axle.... http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tamiy...drive-mod.html Future updates specific to this truck will be here. |
