Im pretty new to crawling -started with a lnc and have recently built a lcc,my questions are regarding battery options. the comp crawler is running a novak 3s 18.5t with 16 tooth pinion with matching esc-from what i have read 3 cell lipos are the way to go,I have only run the unit with a nimh from my night crawler-works ok but gets warm.the 3 cell lipos that fit in the factory tray all have a low mah,the 2 cell lipos that fit the factory tray go up to about 3000mah.I would like decent run times and am not competing. some feedback on what everbody is using, run times and heating would be great. Also are most people using the foctory tray or using larger batteries and moding them to fit on the top of the frame, any info would is appreciated

well i won't be much help but i am running the novak 18.5t brushless motor. that 16t pinion will probably be your downfall. i'm running a 14t right now and fixing to swap to a 12t to help with heat. the losi CC builds heat. no way around it. the worm drive is great for crawling, but the drag of it will burn a motor up quick. i can usually crawl for 6 to 10 minutes before i have to stop and let everything cool down. now when i say "crawl" i mean comp style, lost of binds, i'm not being easy on it! the losi takes more power to get the same wheelspeed as say an axial does, so that means more voltage usually! 3s works great. the best advise i could give is run low mah batteries that way you can check the motor/axles frequently for heat buildup. if i was to throw a 2000mah battery in mine and run it like i would my ax10 i would melt the motor and axles down before the battery cutoff. i run 800mah 3s packs and get roughly 10 minutes per pack. so it's run a pack, let rig cool, run pack, let rig cool. volt up, gear down!! |

that will help with the heat, and 3s helps keep the wheelspeed. i'm still battleing heat issues myself. i think most of mine is driving style now tho. like i said, when i practice i go at it just like a comp. i'm learning to use the dig more often to help keep the front end from binding as much but still about 10 minutes is as long as i would dare run without stopping to let it cool down.

I am running 1050mah packs in mine with a 18.5t goat system, and it runs great! kind of slow on 2s with a 12t pinion but I dont have to worry about heat, and depending on how I drive it I can squeeze a little over 45min out of a 1050 untill it hits the cut off.
