| MSD's, worth weighting?
I installed my Kreepy reds today on my MSD top guns and put a strip of tire weights in as well. 3.50z of strip weights made one wrap around the MSD wheel. I then stretched a few wraps of vinyl tape over the weights and locked them down. They seem heavy now but are they too heavy? by my loose calculations, they are 9oz per wheel without the foams. MSD claims approx. 5.5 oz with rings and hardware, my weights are 3.5oz. How much do the kreepy red wides weigh? rcp claims 4 oz each but that sounds high. that would put me at 13 oz. Is anyone else running that much weight?

MSD "Top Guns" + Kreepy Reds + Mashers = PLENTY of weight.

| I'm not scared of breaking something, I need to find the weak points in the driveline for myself. how much weight for the rears? I'm thinking same setup but without the weights. would be around 10oz for rear. will I need stronger springs with all this weight? seems to be handling pretty well as it is, I just need to swap out my aces in the rear for kreepys...

I've not had the pleasure yet to own MSD beadlocks. I did own the Drastic Sports / now Mayhem beadlocks and I thought they were too heavy. I like heavy wheels, but I want to be able to control the weight. Obviously more weight in the front then the rear, but on my 2.2's, The Drastic Sports / now Mayhem beadlocks could not go down in weight. What you bought, was what you were stuck with. I think the MSD's would be good because you could weight the front like you did, and just leave the rears alone. I own a couple sets of RC4WD's, a set of Ericksons, a couple sets of Pro Line's and a set of Axials and all are lite weight compared to the Drastic Sports / now Mayhem beadlocks. Every crawler, terrain and driving style is different. It's not one size fits all. I have one rig where the fronts weigh in at 1lb 3oz each and another that the fronts are 9oz each. You will just have to test and see what works for you. Like I said earlier, at least you can go down in weight and you definitely have a good quality set of wheels in the MSD's. |
