| instead of narrowing my beadlocks......
i really wanted to wrap my new zombie maxx's around some narrowed beadlocks. but, i dont have a lathe and i dont trust my accuracy with hand tools. so, i was looking at the tires, and i noticed they have a huge sidewall that wraps under the tread. what i came up with is widening the tires instead of narrowing the rims. basically i cut a 1 inch strip from the sidewall and moved the bead to the edge of the tire (if you have seen standard max tires you know what i mean). i only did this on one side, so it gave me some extra offset. it opened up the lugs moderatly, and my side bite looks good. on another note, -the difference between a set of glued 2.2 swampers and beadlocked zombie maxx's is 24oz or 1.5 pound. 2.2's are lighter -the difference between a set of glued jumbo swamp dogs and glued 40 series dirt hawgs is also 1.5 pounds. the 40's are lighter. |

johnrob, there is an easy way to narrow beadlocks. You'll need to buy an extra set of faceplates ($20), but all the work can be done with a dremel-type cutoff wheel chucked into a drill press. If you do try this, get the 5-spoke faceplates to cut, as there is much less cutting to do than if you used solid faceplates. Pics of narrowed beadlocks |
