| No stars with these foams!
Well I wanted to try something different with the foams from my scorpion kit. I never liked cutting the face of the foam since it made the tread area uneven and i liked the idea of holes but there had to be a better way then with a dremel. Then i remembered that my father-in-law used to have a leather shop and had a bunch of leather punches. so I hatched me a plan. First I gathered the tools i needed The punch is about 3/8" in dia. Then i trimmed the edges off the foam to give it a more natural shape. Now the key to getting a good hole is the smash the foam as tight as possible and as strait as possible then wack it good with the mallet You should be left with a nice plug of foam then simply continue until the whole foam is punched Here is how it reacts with the rim inserted Now the cool thing is that there are hundreds of different shapes and sizes with these punches so the sky it the limit with what you can do Most of these punches can be found at flea markets and yard sales, you just need to snoop around. |

you can also make punches out of 3/8" brake line....just camfer the outside edges on a bench grinder at least 3/8" long from the end and clean it up with some sand paper to hone it sharp inside and out ................bob .... |

I hate to burst your bubble, but this is an old idea. I doubt there is much new ideas that the Veterans of the site have not already done. The search feature works awesome and RCC keeps posts forever: The 2.2 MOAB Foam thread |

I must say that I have had problems finding what I'm looking for with the search feature from time to time though, I know noob's get flamed regularly for not putting effort into searching, but damn the archives of RCC are extensive! Whether or not it has been discussed before, good idea Metal Masher

I'm just giving a more effective way of doing it, and yes i know how the search function works and i already found that thread. As far as using break or fuel line goes I wouldn't advise it. I had the rail the punch hard 2 or 3 times to get a clean cut and i doubt the tubing would hold up to it.

| Looks good, reminds me of the non-pneumatic tires you can get for Bobcats and heavy equipment. |

Here's one of my posts from back in '05: You could apply the same theory to 2.2 foams as well (these were for maxx mashers). They worked pretty darn good too ! |

Has anyone used the panther memory foams, and if so, are they any good? I have been looking at picking some up, but I'm unsure whether to buy the panther's or the proline's. Any thoughts ?
