| Foams - too many choices
I have searched, read, searched again, read some more, and then again. I wanted to post this question about 3 weeks ago, but wanted to make sure I had "searched" first. I am building my first 2.2 rig. I started with an axial RTC, I have added losi shocks, white rovers, ckrc bta kit with high steer knuckles, ckrc font and rear 3 or4 link plates, 4 linked the front and rear, axial cvd's (front only) and weighted the stock wheels 6oz front, 3 oz rear so far. This Friday when a client pays me long overdue money I will be ordering VP dig, VP DH comps (with bullets), axial clockable C's, rear under drive gears and some foams as round 2 upgrades. I will upgrade chassis eventually, but am uncertain which way I want to go there. My foam question is which to choose? I have narrowed my choices down to the Proline 2 stage, Crawler Inovations Dual stage, or the VP Pro Adjustable Foam System 5500. Which of the 3 will work best with my setup and why? any additional recommendations are welcome as well. Thanks, DT |

I meant to list the Nova's as an option as well, but forgot them, they were not in the bookmarks on my work pc. I think I will order a set with the resounding response given! Thanks, DT |

The stock foams are fine, they just do not fill the tire and I have flat spots do to it. I'll be ordering the Nova's tomorrow, I just confirmed that my client will have a considerable chunk of what he owes me tomorrow. and at least clockable C's, under drive rear gears, and smaller lipo's (lhs). If he can come up with the rest,or my wife will release a couple hundred dollars form savings, I'll order the DH comps and dig too. |

I am not too concerned about tuning with tire foam, I just run the stock memory foams, BUT here in SoCal, more than a few guys are having good luck with NOVA's foams with HB tires.

I run a 5lb rig on NOVA'S w/ .7 SLW's Doesn't get any better then NOVA'S. IF they felt to hard it is because the inner foam has not been tunned correctly.

Run Nova. If the 5.5 is to tall you can always run the 5.0 or just trim the foam to soften it up.

I have had the Nova's for 2 crawl sessions now, all I can say is WOW, these foams ROCK! The sidewall is nice and firm, but the contact patch still conforms nicely to the rocks! |

How much does your rig weigh? How wide were the inner foams? What was the outer foam like? .7's are very narrow and I personally don't like them much, especially with a tall tire. .7's with Panther Cougars and 5.0 Nova Foams are good, but with HB Rover tires a .7 crowns the tire too much. A Double Deuce Nova Foam can be tuned by either narrowing the width of the inner foam or channeling the face of the inner foam where it meets up with the outer foam. You want a flat contact patch and when using a uber narrow wheel like .7 it makes it difficult. If I can help you tune the foams to your liking, let me know. I realize my product might not be for everyone, but I want to make sure that I have at least offered the best customer service and tuning advice I can before you just walk away from any of my products. Thanks, Eddie
