| Issue with RC4wd Rough Rider wheels and Axial JK
I did a search but didn't find what I really need. It seems the threaded portion of my axles is too long for the included nut that comes with the RC4wd Rough Rider wheels (this nut also includes the faux lug nuts). I think the solution is a thicker wheel hex but the JK uses flat hexes while it seems everybody else's, including my Wraith, have the little nipple on the outside. THe rough rider wheels are not cut for this. My other alternative is to cut some of the thread off the outers but that seems like a pain in the butt. Has anybody ran into this issue before and if so what was your solution? Wheels: Rough Rider 1.9 Scale Beadlock Wheel The center piece is actually threaded on the back to go on the axle. The threaded portion of my outers are too long and the nut bottoms out before they get tight on the wheel hex. I think the stock wheel hexes are about 4.8mm thick. |

you could use the front 2WD traxxas(the gray ones) wheel hexes, if thats not enough use some 5mm(I.D.) washers between the wheel and nut.

Put a spacer on the outside of the wheel then the nut.

I am completely confused by your post. What do you mean the center piece is threaded? On the Rough Riders? I use the same wheels on my F-350 and they are not threaded. I'm also confused by flat hexes and nipples. I don't have a JK, but it looks like the stock hexes are a fairly common size. You could try Traxxas plastic hexes, like these; Traxxas Front Hex Wheel Hubs w/Axle Pins (2) [TRA3654] | RC Cars & Trucks - A Main Hobbies They are 8mm thick. EDIT: Beat me to it. |

Ok, let me see if I can explain this with some pictures I took as it is very hard to describe with words. The piece sitting on the wheel is threaded and is a blind hole. Here you can see the threads hopefully Here is the SCX10 front axle and hex: Here is the wheel fully seated and the center "nut" spun all the way on. As you can see the gap is pretty large and it would take a bunch of washers to fill and would look like crap. I was hoping to find a hex that was about twice as thick as stock. |

Use a wider hex as suggested or cut the theaded shaft shorter. Problem solved

Thanks captain obvious. I know the solutions, re-read the OP. I was having trouble finding wider ones. Thanks for the link Jeckler. I have them on order, hopefully they will be wide enough.

| Re: Issue with RC4wd Rough Rider wheels and Axial JK Considering I already was aware of the solutions you offered up (as I stated in my original post), probably no big loss there. Phins Fan, I don't think my original question required a smart ass response as I got from reddevildemo hence my reply. On the other hand I got very helpful replies, from Jeckler and Gen_3_Teg_88 and I am thankful for them. |

Hopefully the Traxxas hexes take care of the issue. If they're not quite enough to take up the excess, I'd resort to cutting the stubs before additional shimming with washers. One thing I ran into with those wheels and hubs on the Tamiya is that's they'll come loose, especially on the left side. It didn't matter how tight I cranked on it. A drop of blue Loctite takes care of it though. Don't use red, unless you never want to take them off again. A small rubber washer may do it too, but I didn't have any of those, plus it's just one more part to keep track of. |

Maybe try some 2WD Traxxas hexes. |
