Default Standard size 2.2 or 2.2 XLs?

I'm looking at 2.2 Super Swamper G8's for a Yeti/Bomber and wondered what size I should go. I've got the standard 2.2 size for an SCX10 and they are really nice tyres (very grippy) and I like the memory foam they come with.

The extra .4 of an inch with the XL size is attractive as it would be nice for crawling ground clearance but I then likely need better foams which adds to the cost.

What is the general consensus here? Do the XL tyres make a nice difference or do the sidewalls collapse a bit more?

Can't make up my mind if I should stick with 5.4" tyres or go the 5.8 inchers.

Not 2.2 related but I'm starting to find I prefer smaller 1.9 tires for scale look and stability. On a go fast rig high COG is really evident and can lead to lots of time spent on your lid!

Are you going to be doing mostly high speed runs or crawling? The memory foams are ok for just trail runs. For mostly high speed I would go with the small ones and the crawler innovations deuces wild. For mostly crawling I would go with the taller ones with ci double deuce 6.0 med compcut inner and med or fim outer (depends on how heavy). And for a 50/50 I would do the big one with the taller ci deuces wild and maybe add double deuce 6.0 med or firm outer if the foam isn't fitting right in the tire.(The double deuce outer foam will need to be trimmed to fit in the last set up.) Foams are kind of hard to figure out and how one person likes their set up might not be how others like it. Have fun tuning your foam and tires.

Cheers guys. It'll be mostly a crawler with some moderate speed stuff; I'm not that fussed about high speed handling and really am aiming for the best crawling possible. I think I'll have to try the XLs by the sounds of it!
