Default making shorter tires taller

has anyone tried to make some 40 series mashers or some giant tracs fit around a larger wheel like an xtm wheel by cutting the tire and adding a section of another tire to it to make them taller?

I have narrowed a set of tires and know that the bead of the tire still remains symmetrical to fit around a 1.9 wheel but started to doubt myself that trying to make the bead a larger diameter would stay symmetrical and started thinking that it would just deform and not fit right to the lip of the wheel.

i would like to try it but was wondering if anyone had any tips before i screw up a set of good tires.

I have seen it done, a long time ago. At the '89 off road worlds, some of the Associated guys were increasing there favorite tyres, to fit the Yokomo 2.2" buggy rim... 1st time it'd been seen, and AE/Yokomo almost got disqualified for using it...
